Launched in 1978, Omni moved to an online-only platform in 1996 and ceased production completely in 1998. Thankfully, it was raised from the dead last year by Claire L. Evans, a noted science writer (and lead singer of electro-pop band YACHT).

Of course, Evans understands that just because people like the idea of something doesn’t mean they’re going to flock to it—so she has set about reintroducing the brand as a multimedia affair, beginning with a little bit of art. This weekend, Omni descends on New York City’s Red Bull Studios with OMNIPRESENT: A Different View, a retrospective of original artwork from the magazine plus video from the publication’s short-lived television series, Omni: The New Frontier.

Echoing the magazine’s resurrection is a dedicated area of even more iconic Omni images, these ones seen through a View-Master (yes, that little red Fisher-Price toy you thought was so high-tech as a kid), and each one accompanied by an original, downloadable composition by noted electronic artist/producer King Britt, a loyal Omni reader in its heyday, who was tasked with putting sound to visuals to create the exhibition’s most multisensory component.
