Summer Tomato Sale ~ Veggie List 7/19/14 ~ CSA Contracts

• Tonopah Rob

Green tomatoes from Tonopah Rob's Vegetable Farm in Tonopah, Arizona

Pictured here are some of Tonopah Rob's tomato plants.  Over 18 thousand tomato plants were transplanted in late February early March.  All are either heirloom or Tonopah Rob's open field pollinated cross breeds like this jewel in the sun.

It was another spectacular day at the farm stand. People were coming from all parts of the valley to get tomatoes and bell peppers.  The roasted peppers were a big hit too.  They are so good. (recipe at the bottom of the page).  You should have seen the beautiful picture perfect tomatoes and colorful bell peppers that donned the tables.

This Saturday the farm stand is having a sale on tomatoes.  All tomatoes from cherry to the OMG look at the size of these monster tomatoes are all on sale.

  • one pound of organic sharp cheddar cheese or more
  • four Tonopah Rob's Eggs
  • one cup flour, the good kind
  • one teaspoon salt
  • In a 9×12 baking pan or some big cooking dish.  Remove seeds and if you want to take the stem and charred skin off, go ahead.  Arrange the peppers one layer deep in the pan. Cover with cheese either sliced or grated. Repeat the process until you run out of peppers.  Using a hand mixer, mix all the other ingredients together and pour over the top layer of cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to one hour. Make sure all custard has set.  Let it stand for 10 and then dig in.  A side dish is a big taco salad made of your favorite meat, organic corn ships, lettuce, tomato and onions.  Crush the corn chips and layer them on the bottom of a large mixing bowl. Cook your meat, add your cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and toss together. It's a quick and easy meal. Come to the farm to get your ingredients, your friends and family will thank you.
