With the touch of pen to paper and a simple wire transfer, Chrysler completed its deal with Fiat on Wednesday morning, largely ending its quick trip through bankruptcy.

The last obstacle to an exit " a temporary stay imposed by the Supreme Court " was lifted late Tuesday, after the nine justices declined to hear a challenge of the deal by three Indiana state funds and several consumer groups.

Obama's Candor Refreshing, His Policies, Not So Much
06-10-2009  •  KokeshforCongress.com
By Adam Kokesh, on Jun 5, 2009

President Obama delivered a speech yesterday at Cairo University that has already been noted around the world as unique for its candor. It has been translated into thirteen languages and stirred emotions throughout the Middle East. There were a number of issues that he raised that we do not hear about very often from politicians in Washington, let alone the President himself. Where are we to turn as the United States retreats from its roots, and begins to institute a socialistic agenda? Are we a country of and by the people anymore?

Obama and crew would like to create a national health care program in which every person must submit, possible life saving care, to the Federal government. Based on their record of accomplishment, I wouldn’t trust them to watch my dog, clean my pool, or even change the lining in my cockatiel’s cage.

Some of the biggest names in finance"including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley"plan to return a total of $68.3 billion, more than one-quarter of the bailout money the government has given to banks since October. By giving back the money, they will free themselves from a slew of federal restrictions while retaining their ability to rely on a variety of government programs, including issuing debt that is guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Pentagon employees have received millions of dollars in free travel and lodging from foreign countries, trade groups and companies with an interest in shaping policies or doing business with the US military.

Defense officials say the arrangement is legal, saves taxpayers money and is carefully monitored to ensure there are no conflicts of interest. But government watchdogs say it allows donors to subtly exert influence for a small investment compared with the potential gain.

Eager to remove incentives that they say contributed to last year's financial crisis, President Obama's economic team plans to unfurl broad executive pay principles that put a premium on long-term performance over short-term gain.
