07-01-2009
•
Zerohedge.blogspot.com/
There is intervention, there is manipulation going on. No one has exact proof of what is going on but it's out there, and the real liquidity has been gone for a while. People don't understand, the liquidity is not coming back."

Thriving in the Age of Collapse - Dmitry Orlov
07-01-2009
•
Dmitry Orlov
My premise is that the U.S. economy is going to collapse, that this process has already begun, and will run its course over a decade or more, with ups and downs here and there, but a consistent overall downward direction. I neither prognosticate nor wish for such an outcome; I just happen to see it as very likely. Furthermore, I do not see it as altogether bad. There are some terrible aspects to the current state of affairs, and some wonderful aspects to the post-collapse environment. For example, the air will be much cleaner, there will be no traffic jams, and people will have plenty of time to devote to their children and to people within their immediate community. Wildlife will rebound. Local culture will make a comeback. People will get plenty of exercise walking around, carrying things, and performing manual labor. They will eat smaller and healthier diets. I could go on and on, but that is not the point. (Dmitry Orlov)

Space
Over the 4th of July
weekend, Americans will have "spectacular views" of the International

The space station
orbits Earth every 90 minutes in a constantly changing pattern. It is
brighter than any stars in the sky right now, typically visible near
dawn and just after dusk, weather permitting.

New Radar Aims to Detect Illegal Tunnels on U.S. Border
07-01-2009
•
LiveScience
Radar technology could help U.S. border patrol agents spot underground
tunnels dug by human smugglers and drug traffickers along the border,
according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Tunnel diggers have been hard at work along the U.S. border
in recent days and months, the agency knows. Of every tunnel ever found
by a patrol agent, 60 percent were discovered in the last three years,
and patrollers spot a new one every month.

Thousands of casinos, slot-machine parlors and betting halls across

time when Russia's economic crisis is deepening and unemployment is
rising.

Washington Post
National security adviser James L. Jones told U.S. military commanders

Arizona Senate OKs immigration enforcement bill
07-01-2009
•
AP
[We're issuing IOUs, but we can ban immigration (again).]
The Arizona Senate's approved a bill to enable state and local
police officers to help enforce immigration laws and to make it a crime
for illegal immigrants to be in the state.
The bill would prohibit state, county or local public officials from
adopting policies that limit full enforcement of federal immigration
law.

California Senate adjourns without a budget; IOUs start today
07-01-2009
•
LA Times
With a day to go until a cash crisis would force the state to stop
paying its bills, lawmakers and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger worked into
the night Tuesday but failed to reach a budget agreement.
The state Senate voted several times as midnight
approached in a last-ditch effort to approve $3.3 billion in cuts to
education and other programs and stave off, at least temporarily, the
IOUs that California Controller John Chiang is set to begin issuing
Thursday in lieu of some payments.

Health Insurance Rigging
07-01-2009
•
arclein
This report describes part of the problem. The other part is that the billing and finance system is rigged to siphon a large piece of the cash flow away from the health industry unnecessarily into the hands of capital providers. The immediate result is that the top third is paying twice what the service should cost, the middle third is been rationed and the bottom third is told to go whistle.

MN SUPREMES: FRANKEN WON U.S. SENATE RACE; UPDATE: IT'S OVER, COLEMAN CONCEDES!
06-30-2009
•
BradBlog.com
The Minnesota Supreme Court has just ruled
that Democrat Al Franken will be the state's next U.S. Senator bringing
the months long contest against former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.
The decision was a unanimous 5 to 0 ruling, finding that Franken was
"entitled" to be certified by the state's Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty,
and its Democratic Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
Pawlenty has recently said
he would sign the certification for Franken, if ordered to do so by the
MN Supremes. The state requires a signature for certification from both
the Governor and the Sec. of State before Congress members may be
seated. State law also allows for all election contests to be settled
in the state before certification is signed.

Reverse Mortgages Leave Seniors at Risk, GAO Says
6/30/09
•
The Washington Post
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has left elderly borrowers vulnerable to abusive lending practices because of shortcomings in programs that offer reverse mortgages, according to a report released yesterday by the Government Accountability Office.
Reverse mortgages, which are usually backed by HUD's Federal Housing Administration, enable seniors to withdraw equity from their homes. The loan and the accumulated interest do not have to be paid back until the owner dies or sells the home. But the upfront costs are substantial....

Treason? What is that?
06-29-2009
•
Linda Hunnicutt
TREASON:
A crime that undermines the offenders government
disloyalty by virtue of subversive behavior
treachery: an act of deliberate betrayal
Treason is an act of disloyalty or betrayal of trust to your own government. Examples of treason include assassination of a state figure, fighting against your own nation in a war, assisting enemy combatants, or passing vital government information to the enemy. Historically, treason has been severely punished, because an act of treason can destroy a nation. In the modern day, a conviction of treason is accompanied at a minimum by a long jail sentence and a heavy fine, and may merit the death penalty under certain circumstances.
