CFTC Floats Rules Aimed at Speculation

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission will consider new measures to
curb speculation in the markets for energy and other commodities, the
agency is set to announce today.
The move aims to reduce the volatility of prices but faces
resistance from top Wall Street firms, which fear the efforts could cut
into profits. Regulators and lawmakers increasingly worry that these
firms have used their size and power to inflate the prices of
commodities, booking profits in the process.

What if you went to your doctor, suffering from congestive heart
failure, and your doctor had been given a limited budget from your
insurance company to treat you? If he were to go over cost, he would

Americans Continue To Arm Themselves

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Americans say gun sales are up in the United States because of a fear of increased government restriction on gun ownership.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 23% say gun sales have risen because of a fear of increased crime. Twenty-one percent (21%) are not sure.
Sixty-three percent (63%) of men say the threat of more gun control is behind increased sales, compared to 51% of women. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of whites agree, while African-Americans are more closely divided on the question.

A fresh protest has broken out in the capital of China's volatile
Xinjiang region, with a large group of protesters blocking a main road
in a stand-off with security forces.
The demonstration comes two days after at least 156 people were killed in ethnic violence in Urumqi.

over the past 100 years repeatedly and consistently have found that, in
fact, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes or to be behind bars
than are the native-born. This is true for the nation as a whole, as
well as for cities with large immigrant populations such as Los
Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Miami, and cities along the U.S.-Mexico
border such as San Diego and El Paso.
