 Suzuki, Japan’s fourth-largest carmaker, reported a 78 percent drop in unit sales in June, pushing its first-half decline to 60 percent, the market’s worst. Mitsubishi is down 51 percent this year, and is stuck in a slump that began in 2003.  Read Full Story

A New Jersey brewery is using the state’s congested and often-derided turnpike to promote its beer, an idea that concerns the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and a group that opposes drinking and driving.

Cherry Hill-based Flying Fish Brewing Co. (motto: "Proudly Brewed in New Jersey: You Got a Problem with That?") has undertaken an ambitious project of releasing a special beer in honor of turnpike exits, one at a time.

U.S. Senate approves $42.9 billion homeland security bill

The Senate approved a wide-ranging $42.9 billion measure to pay for improving U.S. border security, clamp down on illegal immigration and beef up cyber security in fiscal 2010.

The Senate voted 84-6 for the annual spending bill funding the Department of Homeland Security for the year starting October 1, and now lawmakers must work out differences with a $42.6 billion version of the bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives last month.

Treasury sold warrants below market value

The U.S. Treasury Department allowed 11 smaller banks to repurchase stock warrants at only 66% of their market value, passing up about $10 million of taxpayer profits from government bailouts.

The Congressional Oversight Panel said the government could lose $2.7 billion if it accepts similar valuation levels on warrants repurchased by remaining banks that received government capital injections.
