Senators near bipartisan health deal
07-28-2009  •  AP
A bipartisan group of senators is closing in on a health care compromise that omits key Democratic priorities but seeks to hold down costs, as lawmakers on both sides of the U.S. Capitol labor to deliver sweeping health legislation to President Obama

After weeks of secretive talks, three Democrats and three Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee were edging closer to a compromise that excludes a requirement many congressional Democrats seek for large businesses to offer coverage to their workers. Nor would there be a provision for a government insurance option, despite Obama's support for such a plan, officials said.

If most multi year ice disappears by 2012, then sea ice coverage will consist of fairly thin one and two year ice that will be vulnerable to any decent wind system, even though it may still provide a sea ice cover as erratic as that presently in the Bay.  Read Full Story

The Shas media reacted to the entire scandal with countercharges of anti-Semitism. Yitzhak Kakun, editor of the Shas newspaper Yom Le'Yom told the Jerusalem Post: "The FBI purposely attempted to arrest as many rabbis as possible at once in an attempt to humiliate them." Meanwhile, Nissim Ze'ev, a Shas Knesset member, said, "The U.S. police are trying to make it seem as though there is some kind of Jewish mafia." HAWAII ADMITS TO SECRET RECORDS ON OBAMA
7/27/09  •  APFN Messageboard
From: Andy Martin for U. S. Senator andyforussenator@aol.com To: apfn@apfn.org Martin says Monday's admission by Hawai'i health officials that the state still maintains secret files on Obama makes asses out of Bill O'Reilly, CNN "researchers" and the CNN news managers that tried to intimidate Lou Dobbs. Hawai'i officials admitted (confessed?) on July 27th they still maintain secret files on Obama that have not been opened to the public. Martin has a pending lawsuit seeking public access to these historical archives in Hawai'i State custody. Martin says the latest disclosure by Hawai'i that the secret files still exist is going to explode the controversy and corrode support for Obama's presidency. Since filing his lawsuit in 2008, Martin has become a candidate for U. S. Senator in Illinois in 2010 More...  Read Full Story

7/21/09  •  Family Security Matters
When United States citizens reach the age of 65 they are forced into Medicare and out of any private insurance option for coverage of their healthcare. The government sets the dollar amount doctors, other healthcare providers, and hospitals will be paid for the treatments of a Medicare patient. When a Medicare payment is decided, often the fee is based on which special interest group lobbies the federal government most effectively. No efficacy research for a particular treatment and no market forces enter into this entirely arbitrary decision made in Washington, D.C. Once a fee is established, Medicare pays 80% of the allowable charge. Twenty per cent may be covered by supplemental insurance or patient out of pocket payment. The patient cannot pay his own money for care above and beyond the Medicare allowable"it is against the law. More....  Read Full Story

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) speaking on the House floor: Now we've moved into the realm of gangster government. We have gangster government when the Federal Government has set up a new cartel and private businesses now have to go begging with their hand out to their local, hopefully well politically connected, Congressman or their Senator so they can buy a peace offering for that local business. Markets Do Not Work?
07-28-2009  •  arclein
There is nothing that I find more annoying that the refrain that ‘markets do not work’ that arises whenever we have a crisis or even when someone dislikes an economic outcome. Markets as an abstraction can be always shown to be functioning quite nicely. The difficulty arises when the market is deliberately or accidently distorted to misplaced advantage. We have in fact a barbarian horde attacking our economy at all times with battalions of lawyers and paid flacks.  Read Full Story

SEC Bans Naked Short Selling Permanently

Before someone wishes to tell me that I am wrong, I want someone to explain when was the last time they received a fee for lending stock to anyone. And believe me if you have stock lodged it generally can be lent, especially if you have a margin account. Even a trivial debt is enough to supply a whole portfolio. Naked short selling avoids all the niceties. The trader sells short and forgets about it. If the price rises it then can get dicey, but he is packing several positions to play around with.  Read Full Story
