Mercenaries training US local police a new trend
08-04-2009

The Houston Examiner
Lexington is on the nation’s list of so-called Sanctuary Cities in
which police officers are prohibited from working with ICE or Border
Patrol agents in the United States. Critics are angry over the use of

Blackwater Founder Implicated in Murder
08/04/2009
•
CommonDreams.org
A former Blackwater employee and an ex-US Marine who has worked as a security operative for the company have made a series of explosive allegations in sworn statements filed on August 3 in federal court in Virginia. The two men claim that the company's owner, Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince "views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe," and that Prince's companies "encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life."

The Decline and Fall of the First Amendment
08-04-2009
•
Buffalohair Gazette International
Last week I wrote a spirited article about an encounter with senior citizens. It was a lively piece since these octogenarians were once staunch Obama supporters. They pulled no punches and had some hard questions with both the Democratic and Republican Parties. In any event these survivors of the last Depression had both eyes on the road, their hands on the wheel and were of most ethnic groups other than celestial, I think. In any event it was an honest slice of Americana and they did not mince words nor sugarcoat their opinions.
Harmless enough eh, just another news story that will not see much daylight from the mainstream. I’m used to getting mail from people who do not share my opinion and that is a good thing since they have an opinion of their own. After all it’s a free country, right? Some are more spirited than others and that’s how it goes. But never before had I received such vial and contemptuous hate mail as I did from Obama hardliners. They showed me that if you don’t sh

Child-Snatchers and Life-Stealers, Pt. II: Protecting the Guilty and Powerful

by Will Grigg (Pro Liberate)
Under the rule of District Attorney Ed Jagels, Kern County, California became ground zero for the child abuse hysteria that raged across America for most of the 1980s. Utterly ruthless in pursuing convictions and entirely indifferent to the truth, Jagels recruited and developed a disciplined cadre of persecutors -- assistant DAs,
police investigators, social workers, and "expert" witnesses -- who
refined the art of railroading defendants into an exact science.

Immigration Raids Circumventing Fourth Amendment
08-04-2009
•
The Agitator
It would be easy to dismiss the episode as isolated, but 100
seven-member teams of ICE agents across the country are regularly
making similar house calls, usually in the pre-dawn hours, in SWAT-like
raids with shotguns and automatic rifles, sometimes crawling through
open windows. In place of search warrants issued by a judge, ICE agents
carry administrative warrants issued by one of their own officials that
require that they “knock and talk” to gain entry into a home, a policy
often abused…

Chinese survey finds prostitutes more trusted than officials
08-04-2009
•
Rawstory.com
The online survey of 3,376 Chinese showed that 7.9 percent of respondents considered sex workers trustworthy, putting them in third place after farmers and religious workers, the Insight China magazine said on its website.
“A list like this is at the same time surprising and embarrassing,” the China Daily said Tuesday in an editorial, commenting on the result of the survey, which was carried out in June and July.

Former “Tonight Show” host and car enthusiast Jay Leno recently recently sat down on BBC’s “Top Gear” program to discuss a variety of topics" including “photo enforcement.”
“Well, you have these speed cameras here… See, in L.A., people would say “why don’t you just shoot them out?” In L.A. a day doesn’t go by you don’t see a Styrofoam cup stuck over the lens of a speed camera.”

The Dollar Carry Trade: Is the Diving Dollar Driving Equities?
08-04-2009
•
Ritholtz.com/blog
There is speculation among brokers that a “dollar carry trade” may be evolving. For decades, arbitrageurs would borrow money in Tokyo at zero percent and short the yen. They would then take the “free money” and buy commodities, crude, high yielding bonds and even stocks. With U.S. rates held at zero for months, traders wonder if an American version of the “carry trade” is beginning to evolve.

ABC Consumer Confidence Index Falls to -49
08-04-2009
•
ZeroHedge.com
ABC Weekly Consumer Confidence has flatlined, and not only is it down to -49 from last month's reading of -47, it is at exactly the same place it was two months ago.
Declining levels of consumer comfort usually accompany any fall in income and wages and precede drops in consumer spending. A low or falling ABC Consumer Comfort value is considered an early indicator of an economic downturn. As a result, investors, retailers and traders alike all watch the figure for insight into the general health of the economy.
Note: The index incorporates the most recent week's data with the results of the past three weeks, yielding a rolling four week average. Results are calculated as the difference in percent of positive and negative numbers.

Denninger: Warning Related To The FDIC
08-04-2009
•
Market-ticker.denninger.net
It is thus my position that even if you are well under FDIC limits you must move money around now so you have multiple bank accounts and thus if your withdrawals and access to your funds are "rationed" in a similar fashion you will be able to access what you need to pay your electric bill, put gas in your car and buy your food.
Remember, getting your money back doesn't mean getting it all right now, and government agencies can be very inflexible when what they have decided to do conflicts with what you want.
Since the government is not going to do the right thing with regard to these financial institutions and their alleged "assets", say much less crooked accounting and disclosures - a fact that now, two years into this mess, should be the inescapable conclusion reached by anyone with a brain in their head - you need to protect yourself.

What the Fed is REALLY Trying to Hide In Fighting an Audit
08/04/2009
•
Washington;s Blog
75% of Americans and at least 276 Congress members and 19 Senators want to audit the Fed, but the Fed is fighting tooth and nail to keep everything hidden.
Most people assume that the Fed wants to keep secret the list of banks which received bailout money. You know, something along the lines of "we gave Goldman Sachs $100 billion".
But what the Fed is really struggling to keep hidden is the fact that the entire financial system is based on massive manipulation and fraud by the Fed and its primary dealers.
Specifically, the Fed is desperately trying to hide that many trillions of the government's bailouts have gone to inflating the stock market, buying up the U.S. government's own treasuries, and gaming the currency and gold markets.

Eek.
Jefferson County is the county in Alabama that contains Birmingham; it appears that the Sheriff's Department is going to get hammered now.
The county's economic problems stem from a number of bad bets made with..... guess what.... exotic financial instruments sold to the county by.... you guessed it.... big banks.
May I make a suggestion? Send The Guard up to NY and arrest the bankers responsible for peddling this trash to the county, then bring 'em back and hold a citizens court.
Naw, we couldn't do that. It would look too much like Salem, right?
If you've ever had the illusion that these "exotic products" were good for people in general (instead of the bankers peddling

CONGRESSMAN WARNS RAHM : THIS ISN'T CHICAGO
08/04/2009
•
via Drudge
Following reports that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been orchestrating an effort to intimidate members of Congress and Governors who raise legitimate concerns regarding the effectiveness of the stimulus, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) sent a letter to Emanuel saying “While this type of scare tactic may work In Chicago, it will not work to intimidate me or other Members of the United States Congress.”
“I and others have dared to bring these facts to the attention of President Obama, the Congress and the American people,” Issa wrote. “You’ve unfortunately reacted by once again resorting to the playbook of the Chicago political machine.”
Last month, Politico reported that Emanuel had “launched a coordinated effort to jam” Senator Kyl and other Administration critics… “[A]fter seeing Kyl and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) again paint the legislation as a failure on Sunday talk shows, White House chief of st

Corrupt Prosecutor Seeks to Strike Deal With Sergey Aleynikov
08/03/2009
•
CRIME & FEDERALISM
Matthew Goldstein, the Reuters blogger who broke the Aleynikov story, is reporting:
It looks like federal prosecutors may be trying to cut a deal with alleged Goldman Sachs high-frequency trading code stealer Sergey Aleynikov.Today was the day for prosecutors to indict Aleynikov, who was arrested on July 3 on the theft charges.
But in a court filing, prosecutors told the presiding magistrate judge that they need another 14 days to continue discussions with Aleynikov’s lawyer about a “possible disposition.”
In the legal world, a “possible disposition” means a deal.
After exposing federal prosecutor Joseph Facciponti's fraud upon the court in his prosecution of Aleynikov, we wrote on July 23, 2009:
Aleynikov will be given a super-sweet plea bargain. If his case proceeds towards trial, the world will learn about Goldman Sach's high frequency trading program. Sure, AUSA Joseph Facciponti will try to keep the case under seal. Too many people are paying attention. Reporters a
