White House Backs Right to Arms Outside Obama Events
08-18-2009
•
Washington Post
Armed men seen mixing with protesters outside recent events held by
President Obama acted within the law, the White House said Tuesday,
attempting to allay fears of a security threat.
Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said people are
entitled to carry weapons outside such events if local laws allow it.
"There are laws that govern firearms that are done state or locally,"
he said. "Those laws don't change when the president comes to your
state or locality."

Photography Is Not A Crime
Before, it would take a high profile incident like a University of
Florida student trying to ask John Kerry some hard questions - only to
end up getting Tased and carted away - to generate any national news coverage.
And that was only because the student’s final words - “Don’t Tase me, bro” - were turned into a national punchline.
But nobody is laughing now.
Americans are beginning to realize that all they have to do is catch
the cop on the wrong day at the wrong time and they can wind up with
50,000 volts of electricity ripping through their body.

It is my sad duty to report that Rose Friedman, the widow of Milton
Friedman, died earlier today of heart failure. Her exact age remains a
mystery but it is believed that she was born in 1910.
Rose was born in a Russian village in a region that is now part of the Ukraine.

Donald May spent three months in jail because a central Florida cop thought the breath mints in his mouth were crack cocaine.
The Kissimmee cop even claims he field tested the mints, which proved the mints were crack.
The cop also claimed he saw May buy the drugs and even went as far as claiming that May admitted to buying the drugs.

Thousands of surgeries may be cut in Metro Vancouver due to government underfunding, leaked paper
08-18-2009
•
Vancouver Sun
Vancouver patients needing neurosurgery, treatment for vascular diseases and other medically necessary procedures can expect to wait longer for care, NDP health critic Adrian Dix said Monday.
Dix said a Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document shows it is considering chopping more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to make up for a dramatic budgetary shortfall that could reach $200 million.
“This hasn’t been announced by the health authority … but these cuts are coming,” Dix said, citing figures gleaned from a leaked executive summary of “proposed VCH surgical reductions.”
The health authority confirmed the document is genuine, but said it represents ideas only.
“It is a planning document. It has not been approved or implemented,” said spokeswoman Anna Marie D’Angelo.
Dr. Brian Brodie, president of the BC Medical Association, called the proposed surgical cuts “a nightmare.”
“Why would you begin your cost-cutting measures on medically necessary surgery? I just can’t

Recent Data Show Risk to U.S. Properties Stands at over $3 Trillion

American Banking News
And remember Proof - The FDIC is Broke!
Now snippets from the article...
Spin it any way you want to, the risk to U.S. banks, the economy and homes in the U.S. is far from over, as recent data show, properties in the U.S. are still at risk to the tune of over $3 trillion ($3.4 trillion). And re-sets for most of them are coming due over the next couple of years.
As of June 30, close to 33 percent of all properties that are mortgaged are underwater, or in a negative equity position, according to data released from First American CoreLogic.
“Negative equity continues to be the dominant driver of the mortgage market because it leads to foreclosures in the event a borrower experiences some kind of economic shock such as a job loss, illness or other adverse situation. Given that negative equity did not increase this quarter and home prices declines are moderating or flattening, we may be at the p

50 Top U.S. War Criminals
5/29/08
•
After Downing Street
By David Swanson, Compiled below, in hopes that it may be of some assistance to Eric Holder, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy, active citizens, foreign courts, the International Criminal Court, law firms preparing civil suits, and local or state prosecutors with decency and nerve is a list of 50 top living U.S. war criminals. These are men and women who helped to launch wars of aggression or who have been complicit in lesser war crimes. These are not the lowest-ranking employees or troops who managed to stray from official criminal policies. These are the makers of those policies.
The occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan have seen the United States target civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances, use antipersonnel weapons including cluster bombs in densely settled urban areas, use white phosphorous as a weapon, use depleted uranium weapons, employ a new version of napalm found in Mark 77 firebombs, engage in collective punishment of Iraqi civilian populations -- including by blo

This was probably not the product of an oversight, but rather a deliberately deceptive partial disclosure by an opportunistic prosecutor: The bloodstained underwear were discovered when the purported victim, a pre-pubescent girl, was living in Phoenix, Arizona, nearly 1,000 miles from the man accused of molesting her.

White House spams planet with unsolicited e-mails

AP
[For which others go to prison.] The White House is blaming unnamed political groups for the unsolicited
e-mails it had wrongly insisted no one was receiving from its online
operation. After the White House had consistently denied that anyone who hadn't
sought the e-mails had received them, Phillips acknowledged that people
may have been added to the e-mail lists without their knowledge.

CBS News reports that the AARP’s dance with ObamaCare has produced real results for the senior advocacy group " really bad results. Over 60,000 members have left the AARP, angered by the group’s support for Barack Obama’s health-care reform efforts and silence on cuts to Medicare that will pay for them. Many have joined a new group with a more conservative outlook on health-care reform:...

..comes off as just a mother telling the neighborhood kids how to behave, in this clip from MSNBC's Morning Joe Show. It seems that Arnold Kling and Paul Kedrosky have already fallen in love with this Mommie Dearest
She seems anti-bailout and anti-big bank, i.e. anti-Goldman Sachs et al, because she is completely anti anything not completely run by the government. Notice in the clip when the question is put to her about waiting for commission results before making any regulatory changes, she jumps right in and says that action needs to be taken now. That's the totalitarian like regulator in Warren speaking.
She is really just a major Obama front, for government control of the entire financial system. As I have previously reported:
...Elizabeth Warren. Warren is a Harvard Law School professor and has collaborated with Americans for Fairness in Lending.(AFFIL)
AFFIL is "a non-profit organization designed to draw national attention to the unregulated lending indus

What drives President Barack Obama to want to seize control of the health care and energy sectors of the U.S. economy? Obama was trained as a Marxist from his days as a young boy in Hawaii when his grandfather picked Communist Party USA member Frank Marshall Davis as his mentor. In college, as Obama tells the story, he picked his "friends" carefully, in order to avoid being perceived as a sell-out, and those friends included the "Marxist professors." Later, in Chicago, he would become a political associate of another Marxist Professor, Bill Ayers of the University of Illinois. Does anybody see a pattern here?
Based on what we have seen at some of the town hall meetings, there are some Americans who don't want to see the U.S. go down the Marxist road. This is the time for the media to tell the truth about Obama and his agenda.
Unfortunately, we have now been treated to a new dishonest Obama book, Renegade, by Richard Wolffe, supposedly about "The Makin

Credit Card Companies Rush To Increase Rates Before New Laws
08-18-2009
•
The Business Insider
Comment mine Notice they gave them plenty of time to do just that!
This isn't suprising, but it's annoying.
U.S. banks keep raising credit card rates, increasing their profit even though they've enjoyed steep discounts on their own borrowing, courtesy of Uncle Sam.
CNNMoney.com: The Pew Safe Credit Cards Project said Monday the median lowest advertised credit card rate rose to 11.99% in July from 9.99% in December. At the same time, the group said, the profit banks made on credit card debt rose 46%.
...The study said the rate banks charge on credit card loans on top of what it costs to borrow from the Federal Reserve rose to 8.74% in July from 5.99% in December. That came as banks' borrowing costs were cut in the wake of the Fed slashing its benchmark interest rate to a range near zero percent.
The real issue is that on Thursday, Obama's new credit card rules go into force. These rules limit the card companies' ability to unilaterally raise rates.

Opening the Window on Foreign Lobbying
08-18-2009

ProPublica
In 2008, Bermuda’s influential reinsurance industry needed some help. Successive seasons of monster hurricanes in the United States, where much of its client base is, had cost these insurers of insurance companies $22 billion in losses. Eager to avoid a repeat " and unable to change the weather " the companies and Bermuda’s government turned to something they could influence: The U.S. Congress.
At the behest of his government’s lobbyist, Premier Ewart Brown of Bermuda met in June with key congressmen, among them the powerful House Ways and Means chairman, Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., and two Democrats from states in hurricane alley, G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina and Bennie Thompson of Mississippi.
The sessions, Brown boasted later in Bermuda’s Royal Gazette, were part of a “very

The Message From America
08-18-2009
•
The Golden Truth
I typically would like this blog to remain free from partisan political issues, other than as they relate directly to affecting the way information about finanicial issues get disseminated into marketplace - i.e. the Federal Rerserve should audited and Congress needs to pass a Bill to make this happen.
However, I wanted to share an essay from The Daily Bell which reflects a message being sent all across the country by grassroots citizen movements and which is being ignored by almost all politicians in BOTH parties. Here's an excerpt:
"The monetary elite that has tended to dominate the Western conversation in the past century has done all it could do to inculcate the masses with the idea that a strong and forceful democratic government is necessary for prosperity"
I find it quite ironic how, increasingly, the left side of the political spectrum, who believes in big Government, is actually in bed with same crony/elitist bankers they so despise.

I live out in the Country I do not know if you have had any experience with the "Gypsy's" they are a travelling group who wreck driveways and intimidate elderly people into paying them outrageous amounts for doing so. I used to live in the Twin Cities and I knew all about them from news reports and first hand experience since I had at one time worked for an Asphalt Plant where they would come in and purchase the wrong material for the job.
Well recently they came calling I said I was not interested through the window well they are rather pushy and he wanted to continue the conversation. I am Armed always I live in Western Wisconsin now and we have Open Carry Laws. Lets just say I told him again in a more forceful manner NO he got the drift and left.
I had my husband put up some No Trespassing-No Soliciting Signs the standard types you can buy anywhere but I wanted to have a sign that indicated in a more forceful manner NO and I just found the perfect sign (at site

Will It All Come Tumbling Down?
08-18-2009

The Market Ticker
Let's juxtapose two stories. First, from Bloomberg:
Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- More than 150 publicly traded U.S. lenders own nonperforming loans that equal 5 percent or more of their holdings, a level that former regulators say can wipe out a bank’s equity and threaten its survival.
Ok. Now how about this one?
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Delinquency rates for loans and leases at U.S. banks increased to a record 6.49% in the second quarter from 5.58% in the first quarter, the Federal Reserve announced Monday.
So let me see if I get this right.
At 5% of non-performing loans a bank is at risk of being insolvent.
But the entire banking system in The United States had its non-performing loan ratio increase from 5.58% in the first quarter to 6.49% in the second, a record, and higher than the 5% level at which the survival of a bank(ing system) is threatened with collapse.
Hmmmm.... So should we take from this that the entire US Banking System is about to collapse?
