Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just 7 months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders say senior White House staff members are discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials.

"You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year," a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told ABCNews.com.

One thing everyone agrees on is that the final [healthcare] bill needs to be read and understood by all legislators before a vote is taken.  To any American, this is common sense.  In Washington, that is unlikely to happen.

The situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating along with U.S. public support for the war, Washington's top military officer said as he left open the possibility of another increase in troops.

"I think it is serious and it is deteriorating, and I've said that over the past couple of years -- that the Taliban insurgency has gotten better, more sophisticated," said Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Goldman's analysts talk about short-term developments around specific stocks during the meeting, called a "trading huddle," which is also attended by some of the firm's own traders, the Journal reported.

The practice started some two years ago, and since then the Wall Street firm has given ideas on hundreds of stocks

Colonial Bank Failure Highlights the Problem
08-24-2009  •  Seeking Alpha
The bankruptcy of Colonial Bank (CNB) was the largest bank-bankruptcy in the U.S. since several large, U.S. financial institutions collapsed last year – with the most recent being Washington Mutual, last fall. However, there is one huge difference between the mega-bankruptcies of last year and the collapse of Colonial Bank a week ago. During the large bank-failures of 2008, the acquiring institutions wrote-down the “assets” on the books of these banks by an average of 18% - according to a Bloomberg article. However, when BB&T Corp purchased Colonial, it immediately wrote-down Colonial's assets by 37%, double the amount of discounting done last year. What has changed between now and then? The legitimizing of fraudulent accounting, when the supposed “watch-dog” of U.S. accounting, the Financial Accountability Standards Board brought in new “mark-to-fantasy” accounting rules in the U.S. this spring ( see “FASB strong-armed into mark-to-fantasy accounting”). Polls show potential GOP challengers would beat Sen. Harry Reid

It's the highest stakes ever for a Nevada election, and former boxer Sen. Harry Reid is on the ropes early. Either Republican Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden would knock out Reid in a general election, according to a recent poll of Nevada voters.

The results suggest the Democratic Senate majority leader will have to punch hard and often in order to retain his position as the most accomplished politician in state history, in terms of job status.

Union Official Becomes N.Y. Fed Chairman
08-24-2009  •  Economic Policy Journal
Well it's not a ACORN, but pretty damn close, the Obama influence is clear with this choice. A top labor union leader, Denis Hughes, has become the chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Board of Directors. The New York Fed’s board comprises nine members, and is set up to reflect banking and community interests. Hughes has been on the board since 2003, but a union leader as New York Fed Chairman? Hughes is president of the 2.5 million member New York State AFL-CIO. According to the New York state AFL-CIO site: As President of the New York State AFL-CIO, Mr. Hughes has made creating a more mobile, active and aggressive statewide labor movement a top priority. He has set a tone for organizing new members into the movement and has led the way in developing proactive legislative and political statewide strategy. Hughes clearly doesn't understand basic supply and demand economics, since he "has been successful in helping to pass historic legislation that   Read Full Story

WSJ features a page 2 column today that has this doozy of a point in it: For the administration, the answer is clear: Err on the side of continued expansionary policies...For fiscal conservatives, the answer is equally clear: Start cutting the federal deficit and slowing the growth in the money supply now... Earth to WSJ, the money supply (m2 nsa) is not expanding. The money supply peaked in February when it hit 8244.9 billion. Preliminary July data now shows money supply at 8326.7 billion. The stock market and economy are about to crash again because of this.  Read Full Story

What the hell is wrong with America? Have people gotten so complacent and ignorant that they are willing to relinquish all control and surrender their well being to the state? Remember a time when you were responsible for yourself and your family? Remember a time when people took responsibility for their own actions? Well….I don’t. This country has been in a downward spiral for longer than I have been alive. We are so far gone that people are actually accepting this corrupt, thieving, lying, murderous, tyrannical, corporate fascist state, as a leader. Some of you will call me unpatriotic or un-American for the things I am about to say. However, as George Orwell said, " In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." And to those who wish to speak negatively about my dissent, I will tell you that opposing corruption in government is the highest obligation of a patriot.

I would like to begin with why our founding fathers and the origina  Read Full Story

Oath Keepers aim to curb federal power

“I am interested in personal freedom,” he said.

Alias is working to make Montana the first state in the nation to create Oath Keepers chapters in every county. Oath Keepers, after forming last spring, is comprised mostly of military and law enforcement personnel aiming to resist what it sees as a federal government overstepping constitutional boundaries.

“It’s time for the people to take the government back,” said the 62-year-old Alias, who, until the name change, was Franklin Shook.

Since former U.S. Army paratrooper and Yale Law School grad Stewart Rhodes founded the national organization months ago, state groups have rapidly sprung up, with highway patrolmen, military, county sheriffs, police officers and, according to the group, U.S. Department of Homeland Security employees signing on to stand against overreaching federal authority.

Apparently so since many of the Pigs in Government do not seem to think they should drink from the same trough as the rest of us. I think what is good for the goose is good for the gander, do you agree? On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. Yet all Democrats — with the exceptions of acting chairman Chris Dodd, Barbara Mikulski and Ted Kennedy via proxy — voted nay. The Liar in Chief he cannot be trusted see for yourself in this video. As the Video points out - You know what they say about Dealing with the DEVIL! It took me less than a minute to sign up to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough! Oh no, we don't cheat: Goldman Sachs Group Inc. research analyst Marc Irizarry's published rating on mutual-fund manager Janus Capital Group Inc. was a lackluster "neutral" in early April 2008. But at an internal meeting that month, the analyst told dozens of Goldman's traders the stock was likely to head higher, company documents show. Nothing like selling bonds out the front door and shorting them on your prop desk, right? Oh wait, Goldman did that too! Securities laws require firms like Goldman to engage in "fair dealing with customers," and prohibit analysts from issuing opinions that are at odds with their true beliefs about a stock. Steven Strongin, Goldman's stock research chief, says no one gains an unfair advantage from its trading huddles, and that the short-term-trading ideas are not contrary to the longer-term stock forecasts in its written research. Ron Paul's Mini-Me
08-24-2009  •  Daily Beast
The diehard supporters of GOP maverick Ron Paul are back in campaign mode. But they’re not backing another presidential run by America’s favorite libertarian. Paul's son, Dr. Rand Paul, is running for a 2010 U.S. Senate seat in Kentucky. To hear the other Dr. Paul’s take on one-world government and abolishing the Federal Reserve, you’d swear you were listening to his dad. I called Rand Paul at his medical office in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In a drawling voice, Paul echoed his father’s strong isolationist streak. He brought up fears of a united North American government, including Mexico and Canada, that would replace American currency, an idea he said was being actively promoted by David Rockefeller. Rand Paul doesn’t discount all conspiracy theories. “Some of the fears of world government are legitimate,” he said. “When you hear about the 'Amero,' a new North American money,” he said, “you might say that those people are just conspiracy theorists. But if you said the sa  Read Full Story

The risk of a double-dip recession is rising
8/23/09  •  FT.com
T he global economy is starting to bottom out from the worst recession and financial crisis since the Great Depression. In the fourth quarter of 2008 and first quarter of 2009 the rate at which most advanced economies were contracting was similar to the gross domestic product free-fall in the early stage of the Depression. Then, late last year, policymakers who had been behind the curve finally started to use most of the weapons in their arsenal. That effort worked and the free-fall of economic activity eased. There are three open questions now on the outlook. When will the global recession be over? What will be the shape of the economic recovery? Are there risks of a relapse? More.....  Read Full Story
