10th Amendment is a bunch of baloney according to MSNBC
During an interview regarding obamas healthcare Governor Tim Pawlenty is asked for his thoughts. A brief clip is then shown of Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota wherein he refers to the plans of obama and says there might be a case to use the 10th Amendment. Some background on Governor Pawlenty:
As Governor, he has balanced Minnesota's budget three times without raising taxes, despite facing record budget deficits. Governor Pawlenty's most notable accomplishments include proposing and signing into law significant new benefits for veterans and members of the military; enacting a property tax cap, eliminating the marriage penalty and cutting taxes; toughening the state's education standards; reforming the way teachers are paid through a nation-leading performance pay plan; instituting free-market health care reforms that increase accountability and provide tax credits to encourage the use of health savings accounts; and implementing a plan to Americanize our energy sou

The spark that has triggered rebellion

'I'm as Mad as Hell, and I'm Not Gonna Take This Anymore!' Health care reform is merely the spark that has touched off a prairie fire of grassroots rebellion among a people who believe their representatives do not represent them, do not listen to them and do not care what they think. Many Americans feel that they are losing control of their financial well being, their values and their culture. Shell shock set in as they tried to absorb the rapidity of drastic change.

The Quietest Trillion
Congratulations. You're about to own $100 billion a year in student loans
09-12-2009
•
WSJ
The furor over President Obama's trillion-dollar restructuring of American health care has left his other trillion-dollar plan starved for attention. That's how much the federal balance sheet will expand over the next decade if Mr. Obama can convince Congress to approve his pending takeover of the student-loan market.
The Obama plan calls for the U.S. Department of Education to move from its current 20% share of the student-loan origination market to 80% on July 1, 2010, when private lenders will be barred from making government-guaranteed loans. The remaining 20% of the market that is now completely private will likely shrink further as lenders try to comply with regulations Congress created last year. Starting next summer, taxpayers will have to put up roughly $100 billion per year to lend to students.

For decades, loans carrying a federal guarantee have been the most common way of borrowing for college. After raising money in the private capital markets, lenders m

Sonic Weapons Used In Iraq Positioned At Congressional Town Hall Meetings
09-12-2009
“Long-range acoustic devices [LRADs] for crowd control can be
extremely dangerous. These are used in Iraq to control insurgents. They
can cause serious and lasting harm to humans…We want to know WHY our
Sheriff Dept has this weapon,” Sal Magallanez of San Diego-based Liberty One Radio said in an e-mail sent to East County Magazine, prompting a joint investigation.
The device was stationed by San Diego County Sheriff deputies at a
recent town hall forum hosted by Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San
Diego) in Spring Valley and at a subsequent town hall with Congressman
Darrell Issa (R-San Diego). The Davis Rally drew an estimated
1,300-1,500 people, including vocal conservative and liberal protest
groups.
A public records search conducted by East County Magazine has confirmed that the device is an LRAD 500-x
manufactured by San Diego-based American Technology Corporation (ATC).
Capable of use as an effective loudspeaker, the LRAD also has the

Super-Dense Frozen Water Breaks Final Ice Frontier
09-12-2009
•
Wired
Scientists have created the final predicted form of stable ice,
called ice XV, in the lab. But don’t worry " Kurt Vonnegut had nothing
to do with it, and the exotic new form of ice can’t destroy
civilization.
Types
of ice are classified by how close the water molecules pack together
and the structure the molecules arrange themselves in. With the new
discovery, researchers have identified 16 forms of ice (including two
types of ice I) named in order of discovery. Most of the ice on Earth
is type Ih (h for hexagonal, hence the six-sided symmetry of all
snowflakes). Researchers had long predicted the existence of ice XV,
but had never seen it before.
“We have removed the question mark from the phase diagram of water,”
says Christoph Salzmann of the University of Oxford in England,
coauthor of a paper published online September 2 in Physical Review Letters. A phase diagram maps how molecules will behave at certain pressures and temperatures.

Review: Beatles: Rock Band Comes Together Beautifully
09-12-2009
•
Wired
When my brother and I were very young, and a song by The Beatles
came on the car radio, our parents would ask: “Who’s this, kids?”
“The Beatles!” we’d always yell from the back seat. This was less
because we recognized the group’s catalog and more because we realized
our parents only asked us this question when a Beatles song was
playing. The Beatles were so much more to them than just a band: They
were a cultural legacy that needed to be passed down to us, the babies
of the baby boomers.

Digital Contacts Will Keep an Eye on Your Vital Signs
09-12-2009
•
Wired
Forget about 20/20. “Perfect” vision could be redefined by gadgets that give you the eyes of a cyborg.
The tech industry calls the digital enrichment of the physical world “augmented reality.” Such technology is already appearing in smartphones and toys, and enthusiasts dream of a pair of glasses we could don to enhance our everyday perception. But why stop there?
Scientists, eye surgeons, professors and students at the University of Washington have been developing a contact lens containing one built-in LED, powered wirelessly with radio frequency waves.
Eventually, more advanced versions of the lens could be used to
provide a wealth of information, such as virtual captions scrolling
beneath every person or object you see. Significantly, it could also be
used to monitor your own vital signs, such as body temperature and
blood glucose level.
Why a contact lens? The surface of the eye contains enough data
about the body to perform personal health

Like
a battering ram in a medieval siege, gold keeps hammering away at
the gate. For the third time in less than twelve months, the yellow
metal is once again crashing into the $1,000 per ounce level. As
of press time, it looks like gold will close above that level today
and will set a new record in the process.
Even if the breach is
fleeting, who can doubt that it will mount another assault soon?
In the meantime, there is no shortage of market analysts who are
not buying gold while questioning the motives of those who are.
Although they offer a variety of strained reasons, they nearly all
agree that it has nothing to do with inflation, which is nearly
universally considered dead and buried. As a self-confessed gold
bug, I can assure all that inflation is the only reason I buy gold.

Genome of Irish potato famine pathogen decoded
09-12-2009
•
bio-medicine.org
A large international research team has decoded the genome of the
notorious organism that triggered the Irish potato famine in the
mid-19th century and now threatens this season's tomato and potato
crops across much of the US.
Published in the September 9 online issue of the journal Nature,
the study reveals that the organism boasts an unusually large genome
size more than twice that of closely related species and an
extraordinary genome structure, which together appear to enable the
rapid evolution of genes, particularly those involved in plant
infection. These data expose an unusual mechanism that enables the
pathogen to outsmart its plant hosts and may help researchers unlock
new ways to control it.

Rep. Joe Wilson Voted for Federal Funds To Provide Healthcare For Illegal Immigrants in 2003.
09-12-2009

Crooks and Liars
He's the new hero of the right but I wonder how they would feel if they knew that Rep. Joe Wilson is yet another Republican hypocrite?
On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson , shouted “You lie!”
at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not
cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of
healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are
using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical
questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said
the next day in a campaign fundraising video.
However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The
vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and
Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing
$250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements
to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants.
The program has been ex

The American Empire Is Bankrupt

Chris Hedges via truthdig.com
By Chris Hedges
This week marks the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency.
It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political
decline in the United States. And it signals the last gasp of the
American imperium. That’s over. It is not coming back. And what is to
come will be very, very painful.
Barack Obama, and the criminal class on
Wall Street, aided by a corporate media that continues to peddle
fatuous gossip and trash talk as news while we endure the greatest
economic crisis in our history, may have fooled us, but the rest of the
world knows we are bankrupt. And these nations are damned if they are
going to continue to prop up an inflated dollar and sustain the massive
federal budget deficits, swollen to over $2 trillion, which fund
America’s imperial expansion in Eurasia and our system of casino

New America Foundation Urges US To Inflate Our Way Out Of Debt
09-12-2009
•
The Business Insider
A new paper from the New America Foundation urges that US to adopt a policy of moderate inflation in order to allevieate the massive public and private debt burden.
Authored by Chris Hayes, the Washington DC editor of the Nation, the paper argues that too much debt will have a deadening effect on the economy, as people are consigned to “debtor serfdom” and the government cannot afford to provide basic services because of the cost of making its debt payments.
“The surest way to avoid such a fate is to jettison a central, indeed the central axiom of post-1970s neoliberal global capitalism, and that is to embrace a period of moderate, sustained inflation,” Hayes argues. He provides this chart showing that our debt has grown while inflation has stayed low.

09-12-2009
•
Newsweek
Since its birth, the United States has grappled with the problem of an over-mighty financial sector. With the exception of Alexander Hamilton, the Founders' vision was of a republic of self-reliant farmers and small-town tradesmen. The last thing they wanted was for New York to become the London of the New World"a mammon-worshiping metropolis in which financial capital and political capital were rolled into one. That was why there was such resistance to creating a central bank, and why"despite two attempts"we have no Bank of the United States to match the Bank of England. That was why populists railed against the adoption of the gold standard after the crash of 1873. That was why there was so much suspicion when the Federal Reserve System was created in 1913. That was why government regulation of Wall Street was so strict from the Depression until the 1970s.But now, barely a year after one of the worst crises in all financial history, we seem to have returned to the Gilded Age of t

The FDIC plans to sell substantially all of the remaining assets of Corus Bank in the next 30 days in a private placement transaction." 09-12-2009
•
Reason
Those who claim that President Barack Obama's speech on health care this week wasn't a glorious success are fooling themselves. A Washington takeover of health care never sounded so enticing or fun.
Just ignore the specifics, because when the president says he welcomes substantive new ideas, he means that if you have the nerve to offer any ideas"as Whole Foods' CEO, John Mackey, did in The Wall Street Journal last month"his allies will attempt to destroy your business and reputation.
And when the president says he welcomes bipartisanship, what he means is that he hasn't met with a single Republican on the issue since April"despite numerous requests and two separate House bills chock-full of ideas.

They basically agree with the conservative attack that he is a liberal zealot who wants to inject the government into every nook and cranny of American life"including everyday decisions about the choice of doctors and medical plans, pollsters say.

Mottaki slammed the three rounds of UN sanctions against Iran as "a failed policy" which he said cannot stop Tehran from pursuing its legitimate rights.

However, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Thursday criticized Iran's proposal for its failure to live up to its international obligations, saying that "Iran obviously has two paths that they can choose: one of those paths leads to increased international isolation if they don't take concrete steps to end their program."
