2008 was a much better year than most think… I’ll try to validate this statement.

In 1989 I was a young husband and father of 4 very young children. It was then that my family became exposed to the true nature of government. Events and experiences demonstrated what was coming and why. After a few years of actively paying attention and educating myself, I found that there has been a continuous conflict between “those that simply wish to be left alone, and those that will not leave them alone” (and I don’t mean pesky telemarketers or door to door salesmen). I’m talking about individuals and groups of individuals that use the collective force of government (or the protection of government) to take our lives, our liberty and our property without our voluntary consent.

Once this concept is accepted in a society the end result is certain. Productive people are punished and non-producing individuals are rewarded until there is a complete collapse.

There are many sources that detail examples in history or document trends that we are following towards a total breakdown of America’s economy. But there is a very bright side that I wish to highlight.

We all have experienced close up the rhetoric implanted into the public mind of Earth’s population. As a young adult in the 1980’s it was clear that the same 4-5 stories of the day were to be the drumbeat on all network news stations and I quickly realized that five issues certainly could not represent the concerns of a population of hundreds of millions. It was obvious to me that we were being manipulated into having a predetermined perspective on selected issues that were of limited importance, while distracting us from the important questions going unanswered and usually unasked.

In 1994 many of my friends and fellow liberty activists got our first email accounts. It was then that we understood clearly what was being done. In every State Legislature and City Hall there were the same pieces of legislation being introduced that were steadily reducing the status of individuals thru a transfer of wealth and power to an ever growing and all encompassing collective of increasing size and jurisdiction. Readers of FreedomsPhoenix have witnessed this clearly with our coverage, but this has been going on for at least as long as recorded history.

There are many that advocate that there is a long pedigree of an organized effort to control vast populations. While this may be true, I don’t think the removal of one faction of Rulers/Leaders would prevent another effort from taking their place. In fact I am of the opinion that there is a cornucopia of would be rulers that would immediately claim ‘savior status’ and gladly offer enough shiny objects to entice large numbers of people to sacrifice their liberty for promised security.

But 2008 has demonstrated that humanity will create new options when they are unsatisfied with what has been presented them and will work very hard to make themselves heard.

America has been a great threat to the ancient idea of world domination under one philosophy/ruling order. America represented the concept of self governance at a local level with community members far more in charge of their own lives than ever before. But before the revolutionary blood had dried on liberty’s battlefield, the effort to collectivize Americans began again. But it was our culture that insulated us from voluntarily enslaving ourselves under the yoke of central planners. Even the existence of human slavery in America didn’t produce an environment that had individual Americans begging for a set of chains for themselves and their children. It could be argued that the existence of slavery could have had the exact opposite effect.

Do we hear the same arguments given by slave owners of early America repeated today? I think so. When media is used to propagandize the message that ‘we are too stupid, uninformed or ill-equipped to run our own lives and that direction given us by those more qualified is in our best interest’, you can understand how easy it is to recognize a relationship of ‘Master & Slave’ being advocated.

2008 brought what many of us anticipated and in many ways hoped and prepared for. Many times over the years I was accused of ‘hoping’ for the coming economic collapse to validate our predictions. This is not true. The destiny of our wealth and our freedoms was decided a long time ago. Now that we understand that, we can build our lives on a much firmer foundation. The imaginary wealth of the past was always destined for other’s pockets,… the ‘system’ guaranteed it. Even those of us that have avoided the worst of the pillaging won’t be insulated from the pain that is to announce the re-birth of liberty,… a “Freedom’s Phoenix”.

I hoped for an understanding of the simple math and historical evidence that would prevent the pain to come. But 2008 has brought understanding to hundreds of millions around the world via a great loss of wealth and has awakened a sleeping giant.

If humanity is destined to destroy itself, it won’t happen because of too much freedom. It’ll be because of a collective induced contagion like the one we are witnessing in economics now. The strength and vitality of individuality and self-reliance will once again be seen as traits of value and the understanding that freedom is required for them to flourish will fuel the coming ‘discussion’ in America and around the world (in spite of any media’s effort to ‘manage’ the dissent).

So from this perspective I hope you can understand why I am more optimistic about our future than I have been at any time in the passed 20 years.

Many of you reading this have seen a change in your lives over the last couple of years that will see you through the toughest times ahead. You have found more reliable sources of information, new friends and acquaintances that are willing to trade and barter for mutual benefit, learned new skills and discovered valuable talents and added to all of these new traits a much greater understanding of what is really happening around you so that you are not easily manipulated into advocating for your own destruction without even knowing it.

“Can we just hurry up and get to a Police State so we can leave” was a statement I’d use often in presentations to prompt a discussion. I wasn’t advocating leaving America; I was making the point that as a people I thought that we were going to have to experience the heavy hand of a Police State before enough Americans would make its existence impossible.

After hearing the news of another freedom crushing effort by various levels of government my friends and I would often respond with, “another day closer to freedom”. This is because we understand that our lives are not going to be lived in a truly free society until we have experienced the brutal tyrannies experienced by revolutionaries of the past.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

And no amount of ‘complaining’ will result in an expansion of freedom. But the people will come to their own conclusion that their mere desire to be free from oppression will be ineffective.

We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

If we were to take the Declaration of Independence and replace the words “King George” with “Federal Government” and “these Colonies” with “These States” we would find a prophetic document ready to be used again. In fact, this is exactly what I did as an Arizona Initiative in 1994 as a ‘civics lesson’. What would be my fate should I file such a document again? What would happen if enough signatures were gathered to place such a document up for a vote of the people? Would it be allowed? Could the vote counts be counted on for accuracy? Would I be arrested for (fill in the blank)?

The tipping point was passed a long time ago and America will become a province in a global empire of sacrifice and plunder or we will educate ourselves to the level required of a free people.

Our relinquishing to the government the care of our children for hours a day was our largest mistake and the most important correction that should be made as soon as possible. But in just the past few years I have witnessed a tremendous growth of understanding regarding this issue, along with the desire to make life changes in order to save the next generation from involuntary servitude to the state.

My optimism comes from my understanding of history and the fundamental belief in humanity’s capacity to admire an individual’s demand to be left alone to reach their full potential.

In the end freedom always wins,… it just gets really messy first (then we start the process all over again – Why do you think it’s called REVOLUTION?)

STOP USING DEMOCRACY! We are a Constitutional Republic, and the use of the vile word 'democracy' keeps Americans ignorant!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and to FreedomsPhoenix. You have a good written piece against a bad government. I too have written a lot about bad governments not only in lands ruled by despots but even in a democracy like ours. But I have written good editorial pieces as well, read widely, where a good government is badly needed to ensure our liberty and freedom. Take care.

2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

So why don't the Christian churches promote their people in office big time? Do you think the churches might be influenced by government somehow?

We voiced our votes...how do you know that each
and every vote was heard (counted)?

In the state of Arizona we don't know, yet.

Let's hope the giant stays awake.

Thanks and Good Luck.

While we're sharing Hope:
"I am persuaded that the good sense of the people will always be found to be the best army. They may be led astray for a moment, but will soon correct themselves. The people are the only censors of their governors, and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs through the channel of the public papers, and to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people." --Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2009, Ernie!
May God bless you and yours and stay your hand in your good works to espouse truth, justice, and liberty for all! The banksters need to remember that when the grassroots are scalped right into the dirt, the cash cows starve. We need to remember the farmer milks the cows dry before butchering them! Beware the New Year and the change to come. Remember, Jesus is a libertarian!
