Participation In State Legislative Budget Summit
Business leaders will provide input on
Arizona's budget shortfall
PHOENIX - This week, as part of the 49th Arizona Legislature's Budget Summit, Arizona Chamber businesses Wells Fargo, Motorola Inc., Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold Inc., Rimrock Company, U.S. Airways, and Lee & Associates will participate in a Business Leaders Panel. On Wednesday January 14th, from 10am-12pm, at the Arizona State Capitol, each of these local businesses will weigh in on the state's budget deficit. The panel discussion will be moderated by Senate President Bob Burns (R-Peoria) and House Speaker Kirk Adams (R-Mesa). The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Vice
President of Government Relations, Allison Bell, commented, "As Arizona's
legislators reconvene to address the $1.5 billion dollar deficit for 2009, we're
pleased they're seeking the input of the Arizona Chamber's Member businesses.
Each has a compelling case that describes the effects of the economic downturn."
Craig Coppola of Lee & Associates added, "Now is the
time to show the people of Arizona and businesses across the country that we can
show financial prudence. We can cut expenses and balance our budget without
raising taxes."
And, noting the budget as a matter of key importance to
Arizona's future, Wells Fargo's Vice President of Government and Community
Relations, David Howell, added, "We should not waste this chance for the private
and public sectors to work together to address the immediate issue and to
thoughtfully plan for the decades ahead."
The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and
Industry is committed to advancing Arizona's competitive position in the global
economy by advocating free-market policies that stimulate economic growth and
prosperity for all Arizonans.
