The real question is NOT what the Government says... "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know." The REAL question revolves around the things that Government is hiding so successfully that you don't realize they exist. And how can you question anything that you do not know about?
Might it be that, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," is really only a camouflage seeking to make us thing that we are finding something out, when, really, the important stuff to find out is hidden so deeply that we will never know?
Perhaps we need some witch hunts that open everything about Government up to us. After all, what are they hiding that we shouldn't know about?
Might witch hunts only serve to drive them into deeper secrecy?
When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything — you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him
Robert A. Heinlein (1940)
