Syria's Assad Blasts Western-Supported Terrorism, Russia Steps Up Strategic Bombing

by Stephen Lendman

In March, Obama's naked aggression on Syria entered its sixth year. Endless conflict rages because he wants war, not peace. Claims otherwise are head-fake deception.

US plans call for forcibly ousting Assad, destroying Syria's sovereignty, partitioning the country for easier control, looting its resources, exploiting its people and creating dystopian chaos and human misery.

Assad defends his country and people heroically, his leadership and mission entirely opposite of how he's portrayed in the West, by Israel and other regional rogue states.

Conflict can only end when terrorism is defeated, he said. It continues because these groups have foreign backers. Otherwise they wouldn't exist.

All armed elements waging war on Syria and its people are terrorists, he stressed. America is infamous for creating geopolitical problems it doesn't solve.

Endless violence, chaos and disaster stalk every country where it shows up. None enjoy peace, stability and tranquility. Slow-motion genocide affects millions of Syrians, US imperialism killing a nation.

Russia heroically is trying to save it from the jaws of disaster, stepping up its aerial campaign. On Tuesday, its Defense Ministry said:

"In the morning of July 12, six long-range Tu-22M3 bombers, which took off from the home airfield on the territory of the Russian Federation, delivered a combined strike with high-explosive ammunition at facilities of the ISIL terrorist group (former name of the Islamic State terrorist organization) east of Palmyra and As-Suhnah."

"(A) great amount of enemy manpower," weapons, munitions, combat vehicles and related equipment were destroyed.

Washington and its "coalition" allies were informed of the strike, its timing, targets and transit corridors in advance, begging the question.

Why give adversaries time to warn their terrorist foot soldiers on the ground, letting them disperse and avoid greater casualties. Why say anything. Let Russian airpower and commitment against terrorism speak for itself.

Its military sources said their forces "have two choices to hit heavily the terrorists' positions across the war-hit country. Using an advanced model of winged missiles with very precise targeting capability, which can be launched from both warships and warplanes, is the first choice of the Russian army."

"And, calling for Kosnitsov aircraft carrier to be ready for imminent operations over the militant-held regions in Syria will be the second option."

Defeating terrorism in Syria requires Russia's commitment to eliminate them militarily. Diplomacy failed. Crushing their elements is the only feasible option.
