Iran Nuclear Deal to Remain in Force if Trump Pulls Out

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The JCPOA nuclear deal is an international treaty involving seven countries.

Trump earlier disgracefully called it "the worst deal ever negotiated." It never should have been needed in the first place.

Annual US intelligence reports affirm Iran's peaceful nuclear program with no military component - pre-JCPOA and after it became effective in January 2016.

Seven IAEA reports verified Tehran fully complies with its terms, along with Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) principles.

The issue of Iran has nothing to do with its political, economic or military activities, everything to do with its sovereign independence, along with standing in the way of Israel's regional dominance in partnership with Washington.

Every 90 days, the Trump administration must certify to Congress if Iran is in compliance with JCPOA terms - twice affirmed, maybe not a third time at end of October.

Reportedly he intends finding a way to decertify the deal despite top administration officials against it - including Rex Tillerson, HR McMaster and Joint Chiefs chairman Joseph Dunford.

According to Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) head Ali Akbar Salehi, Tehran intends keeping its options open if Washington breaches the deal.

It'll respond appropriately, he said. America will stand alone as a JCPOA scofflaw. Since Trump took office, Iranian officials accused him of trying undermine international trade with Iran, Israeli dirty hands involved.

According to JCPOA terms, America must "refrain from any policy specifically intended to directly and adversely affect the normalization of trade and economic relations with Iran."

Later this month, Iranophobe/neocon US UN envoy Nikki Haley will meet with IAEA officials in Vienna, part of Trump's intention to decertify Iran in October, along with pulling America out of the deal.

Imposing illegal sanctions for fabricated reasons is part of the strategy. So is falsely claiming Tehran's legitimate ballistic missile program violates JCPOA terms, along with bashing its involvement in Syria - combating terrorism unlike America support it.

In late July, Haley turned truth on its head, blustering "(t)he issue with Iran always comes back to mistrust. Iran's widespread support for terrorists tells us we can't trust them. Iran's breaking its obligation on missile testing tells us we can't trust them."

Weeks earlier she ranted "Iran's destructive and destabilizing role in the Middle East goes far beyond its illicit missile launches."

"From Syria to Yemen and Iraq to Lebanon, Iran's support for terrorist groups continued unabated. Iran's weapons, military advisers and arms smugglers stoke regional conflicts and make them harder to solve."

All of the above are malicious Big Lies. Iran is a reliable international partner, America an unprecedented scourge threatening world peace.
