Undemocratic Dems Pretend to Support Universal Healthcare They Oppose

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Congressional progressives don't exist. Sanders and others pretending otherwise oppose what they claim to support.

During the Obamacare debate, Sanders was the only undemocratic Dem rhetorically for  single-payer universal coverage, then rejected it by supporting the (Un)affordable Care Act instead.

His backing was crucial. A "no" vote would have killed an anti-populist rationing scheme, benefitting insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains, providing healthcare based on the ability to pay, ignoring Martin Luther King saying "(o)f all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane."

The 2016 undemocratic Dem party platform rejected universal healthcare and other progressive policies, supporting militarism and corporatism instead.

Absent in the platform was anything about democratic governance the way it should be, the general welfare, social justice, and making America beautiful for everyone, instead of for its privileged few alone.

On Wednesday, Sanders and 12 undemocratic Dem co-sponsors will introduce Medicare for all legislation they silently oppose.

If for it, why now with Republicans controlling both houses and a GOP president - assuring zero chance of enactment.

Why not in 2009-10 when Dems controlled Congress with Obama in the White House - the idea not considered, not then, earlier or now.

So what's going on with Sanders and his co-conspirators? Their Medicare for All bill is phony, a political stunt with 2020 in mind, an issue to run on against Trump, hoping one of their own will succeed him.

If successful, an undemocratic Dem president will discard the idea like earlier ones, including Wilson, FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, Carter, the Clintons and Obama - maintaining America's marketplace medicine system, healthcare based on the ability to pay, a fundamental human right ignored throughout US history.

Politicians say anything to get elected. Once in office in America, other Western societies and most others, wealth, power and privileged interests alone are served, ordinary people exploited, largely left to fend for themselves.

Sanders sold his soul long ago, a deplorable character, a longtime self-serving con man, betraying his supporters time and again, a Hillary supporter, her high crimes ignored.

His claimed Medicare for all support is pretense, not real. Dems are as undemocratic and hardline as extremist Republicans on major issues mattering most.

How can anyone backing Hillary's pure evil claim to be progressive? Throughout US history, universal healthcare never had a chance to become the law of the land.

It doesn't now - no matter which right wing of US duopoly governance controls Congress and the White House.
