Trump Official Kills Israeli/Palestinian Peace Process

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Does it matter? Not at all. Each time Israeli/Palestinian peace talks are initiated, they're dead on arrival - this time no different than earlier.

Jason Greenblat is Trump's lead international negotiator, his point man on sham Israeli/Palestinian peace talks. This time is different in one respect.

Greenblat killed the process before talks began, a remarkable display of incompetence, laying down unacceptable markers, assuring negotiations, if initiated, become an exercise in futility like every time before - known up front instead after rounds of talks going nowhere for decades.

On Thursday, Greenblatt issued a statement saying the following:

"All parties agree that it is essential that the Palestinian Authority be able to assume full, genuine, and unhindered civil and security responsibilities in Gaza, and that we work together to improve the humanitarian situation for Palestinians living there" - neither he, Trump or other administration officials give a damn about.

"The United States reiterates the importance of adherence to the Quartet principles," Greenblatt continued.

"Any Palestinian government must unambiguously and explicitly commit to nonviolence, recognize the State of Israel, accept previous agreements and obligations between the parties – including to disarm terrorists – and commit to peaceful negotiations."

"If Hamas is to play any role in a Palestinian government, it must accept these basic requirements."

Fact: Palestinians, including Hamas, are victims of Israeli terrorism, encouraged and supported by Washington.

Fact: Palestinians, including Hamas, support nonviolence. Israel and Washington reject it. Their aggressive agendas speak for themselves.

Fact: Palestinians never waged war on Israel or initiated conflict. Israel bears full responsibility for slow-motion genocide against the Palestinian people, including wars of aggression at its discretion, ongoing for decades with no prospect for responsible change.

Fact: Hamas leaving itself defenseless by disarming is a nonstarter. So is renouncing its legitimate right to resist tyranny - never!

Separately, Netanyahu laid down his own conditions for Palestinian unity governance.

He demanded Hamas disarm leaving itself defenseless, end resistance against occupation harshness, recognize Israel as a Jewish state, and sever ties with Iran, among other ultimatums.

All of the above are unacceptable. Israel won't end occupation or recognize Palestinian self-determination within June 1967 borders, both prerequisites for conflict resolution.

Greenblatt made things tougher with his unacceptable demands. Unless the world community intervenes responsibly, peace will remain elusive - mainly because Washington and Israel reject it.

Conflict and instability serve their imperial agendas. Peace undermines them.

Trump, Greenblatt and Netanyahu demand Palestinian subservience to Israeli dominance over their land and lives - an automatic deal killer.
