Iran Rejects Nuclear Deal Changes

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Trump and French President Macron "are deciding for an (international) agreement reached among seven parties."

"Who allowed" them to try undermine what took years of talks to consummate, Rouhani adding:

"I have spoken with Macron several times by phone, and one time in person at length. I have told him explicitly that we will not add anything to the deal or remove anything from it, even one sentence. The nuclear deal is the nuclear deal."

"It will either last or not. If the JCPOA stays, it stays in full."

Rouhani mocked geopolitical know-nothing Trump, explaining he has no "background in politics…law (and) international treaties."

He says the JCPOA "is a very bad deal. Well, if it's a very bad deal, then why did the US government sign it?"

"How can a tradesman, a merchant, a building constructor, a tower constructor make judgements about international affairs" he knows nothing about - just the rubbish fed him by extremist handlers suppressing hard truths.

Rouhani warned of "severe consequences" if Washington abandons the deal and reimposes nuclear-related sanctions, effectively killing it.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said there's no JCPOA "Plan B. It's either all or nothing. If Washington pulls out, so will Iran."

In Washington for a three-day state visit, Macron shamefully called for "a new deal with Iran," turning truth on its head claiming it's "the only way to bring about stability." It's a way to wreck it.

According to Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation Christopher Ford, Trump won't renegotiate the JCPOA.

He wants a new agreement - "a supplemental agreement that would in some fashion layer upon it a series of additional rules, restrictions, terms, parameters, whatever you want to call it."

On Wednesday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said she'll work with Washington and France to address (nonexistent) "challenges Iran poses in the Middle East, including issues (Macron) proposed for a new (JCPOA) deal…"

Russian arms control envoy Vladimir Yermakov called the JCPOA "a fragile compromise. Any deviation from it…will inevitably affect the global non-proliferation regime and have powerful negative consequences for regional stability and security."

A May 12 deadline approaches for Trump to decide whether or not to stick with the JCPOA. Earlier he said "(e)ither fix the deal's disastrous flaws (sic), or the United States will withdraw."

During a 36th International Fajr Film Festival (FIFF) in Tehran press conference, director Oliver Stone was asked who Trump resembles in cinema.

"Beelzebub," he responded, the demonic biblical figure referred to as one of the seven princes of Hell.
