Hollow EU Criticism of Israel

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The EU maintains normal relations with Israel politically, economically, financially, technologically, and culturally.

Criticism when stated excludes actionable policies to hold the Jewish state accountable for its high crimes.

Brussels has done nothing to challenge its decades of illegal occupation harshness, its breach of fundamental international laws, norms, and standards, its suffocating Gaza blockade, three wars of aggression on the Strip, other human and civil rights abuses, its undeclared war on Syria, support for ISIS and other terrorists, along with other high crimes too serious to ignore.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is allied with US and Israeli imperial agendas, their militarism and belligerence, their disdain for world peace and stability.

Her media reported critical remarks to Ziofascist Israeli public security minister Gilad Erdan rang hollow, reportedly saying:

"The EU strongly rejects the accusations of being involved in financing any activities that support terrorism or terrorists," adding:

Israeli accusations otherwise are "unfounded and unacceptable vague and unsubstantiated." Mogherini responded after Erdan accused the EU and its partners of supporting (falsely designated) terrorist groups, along with boycotting Israel.

The Netanyahu regime accused Palestinian human rights groups of ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, falsely designated a terrorist organization like Hamas, Hezbollah, and other groups resisting Israeli state terror.

Separately on Thursday, a statement by the EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah said they "express serious concern at the official inauguration on 1st August of a touristic center, run by a settler organization, in the Batn al-Hawa/Silwan neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, in the compound from which five households of the Palestinian Abu Nab family were evicted in 2015," adding:

"(A)round 180 Palestinian households in East Jerusalem, out of which approximately 100 in Batn al-Hawa alone, face the risk of eviction from their homes, directly facilitating further settlement growth in the city, as in this instance."

"The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah recall the successive Foreign Affairs Council Conclusions and statements in which the EU has repeated its strong opposition to Israel's settlement policy and actions taken in this context, including evictions and demolitions."

"Settlement activity in East Jerusalem seriously jeopardizes the possibility of Jerusalem serving as the future capital of both States, is illegal under international law, and undermines the viability of the two-state solution and the prospect for a lasting peace."

Neither the EU, US, UN, or world leaders have done anything to hold Israel accountable for over half a century of illegal settlement development - on stolen Palestinian land.

They've done nothing to confront endless Israel high crimes too grievous to ignore.

Rhetorical criticism without actionable policies holding Israel accountable is meaningless, green-lighting the Jewish state to do what it pleases.

The latest hollow EU criticism came in response to the Netanyahu regime allocating 4.5 million shekels for an illegal Jewish Yemenite Heritage Center settlement project near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied East Jerusalem.

It's part of Israel's longstanding scheme to colonize all valued Judea and Samaria land, dispossessing its Palestinian residents, stealing what belongs to them.
