I'm sorry to report that Andrea Millen Rich, proprietor of Laissez Faire books and many other things (see here) has died.

More or less every obituary you'll read about Andrea will point out that she helped unknown people get a decent start. This is true, and I was one of them.

When I was finished with my first complete draft of A Lodging of Wayfaring Men, I sent it to Andrea for comments. Not only was the book anonymous at the time, but she wouldn't have known my name anyway. Nonetheless, she read the entire book and sent back comments that made it far better than it would have been. She gave me precisely the help I needed, precisely when I needed it.

A little bit of luck is necessary in life, and part of mine was excellent advice from a busy woman who didn't even know my name.

Thank you again, Andrea. I am permanently grateful.
