Erdogan Vows Continued Turkish Aggression in Syria

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Erdogan's cross-border aggression is all about wanting territory seized, controlled and annexed, his stated aims fabricated to conceal what he hopes to accomplish.

On Wednesday, he vowed Ankara's Orwellian-named "Operation Peace Spring" will continue, an offensive unrelated to restoration of peace and stability in Syria, just the opposite.

"Our goal is clear," he roared. "We are not worried over any sanctions." The Trump regime's offer to mediate between Ankara and Kurdish YPG fighters is unrelated to wanting hostilities in Syria halted the US continues endlessly.

Since 2012 Geneva talks, followed by multiple Astana and Sochi rounds, the US and NATO rejected restoration of peace and stability in Syria.

Longstanding US/Israeli aims are all about wanting Assad replaced with pro-Western puppet rule, the country partitioned for easier control, the same objective for Iran and elsewhere regionally — along with rejecting Palestinian self-determination.

That's what the scourge of imperialism is all about, humanity's curse everywhere.

Erdogan went on to say Turkish forces advanced 32 km into Syrian territory — an operation of state terrorism, not combatting it, as he falsely claimed.

Pence and Pompeo are heading to Ankara for discussions on halting Turkey's offensive. Their mission is all about wanting the US to control what goes on in the country, including over warmaking.

Erdogan refused to meet with them, saying he'll only talk to Trump about his Syria offensive. His communications director indicated otherwise, saying he "does plan to meet with the delegation led by" Pence on Thursday.

According to Turkey's Foreign Ministry, the regime's foreign minister Cavusoglu with meet with Trump's national security advisor Robert O'Brien in Ankara on Thursday.

Erdogan and Trump are scheduled to meet at the White "in the first half of November," according to Reuters.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Turkey's president may meet with Putin in Moscow later this month.

Both leaders spoke on Tuesday by phone, Peskov saying they stressed "the need to prevent confrontations between units of the Turkish army and Syrian armed forces" and related issues.

The Trump regime failed to condemn his aggression during Thursday and Friday closed door Security Council sessions last week.

The State Department drafted waivers to continue US arms sales to Turkey, making a mockery of Treasury Department sanctions imposed.

An unnamed US war department official said US "official business" with Turkey continues unchanged — other than its involvement in the F-35 program for buying Russian S-400 air defense missiles.

Britain, France, Germany, and other EU nations suspended their arms sales to Turkey, a short-term measure sure to be reversed ahead.

According to neocon Senator Lindsey Graham, he'll "be introducing sanctions against Turkey Thursday, and I do appreciate what (Trump) has done against Turkey through executive action but more to follow."

Companion House legislation is being prepared for the same purpose.

Trump's Justice Department sanctioned Turkey's Halkbank, a "six-count indictment (for alleged) fraud, money laundering, and sanctions offenses related to the bank's participation in a multibillion-dollar scheme to evade US sanctions on Iran."

They're flagrantly illegal, breaching the UN Charter. Nations complying with them share culpability with the US.

Turkey's cross-border aggression is unrelated to false claims that it's facilitating an ISIS revival, its jihadists and activities controlled by the Pentagon and CIA.

It has nothing to do with aiding Syria's liberation from the scourge of US-led NATO and Israeli aggression — the main threat to the nation and its people.

It's why restoration of peace and stability in the country have been unattainable. Washington and Israel most of all reject it.
