Kamala Harris' Campaign Implodes

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

She's the latest undemocratic Dem to pull out of the 2020 race for the White House.

Others dropping out earlier included W. VA  state senator Richard Ojeda, Rep. Eric Swalwell, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Rep. Seth Moulton, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, NYC mayor Bill de Blasio, Rep. Tim Ryan, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, and Rep. Beto O'Rourke, among others.

Fifteen Dem aspirants remain in the race, the number certain to go down in the weeks and months ahead.

Rich and powerful interests control the US electoral process, ordinary people entirely left out with no say over how they're governed.

Duopoly power excludes independents. Half or more of the electorate opts out because their rights, needs and welfare aren't addressed.

When elections are held, dirty business as usual wins every time, reflecting a debauched system too corrupted to fix, Americans getting the best democracy money can buy.

If elections changed anything for the better, they'd be banned. The world's richest nation doesn't give a hoot about its ordinary people, exploited, not served — democracy in America pure fantasy, never the real thing.

The NYT falsely claimed establishment figure Kamala Harris focused her campaign on wanting to serve "historically marginalized groups like women, people of color and low-income Americans."

Polar opposite is true about a fantasy progressive, her political history noted for serving privileged interests and her own exclusively at the expense of due process and equal justice under law.

As Alameda County, CA assistant district attorney, San Francisco district attorney, and California state attorney general, Harris pursued injustice by blocking exculpatory evidence, defending unconstitutional practices, and preventing prosecution of wealthy individuals.

Her record belies her claim to be a judicial reformer, just the opposite.

Loyola Law School Project for the Innocent in Los Angeles/Law Professor Lara Bazelon earlier exposed her, saying.

"Time after time, when progressives urged (Harris) to embrace criminal justice reforms as a district attorney and then the state's attorney general, (she) opposed them or stayed silent."

"Kamala Harris was not a 'progressive prosecutor. (She) was often on the wrong side of history when she served as California's attorney general."

"Most troubling, Ms. Harris fought tooth and nail to uphold wrongful convictions that had been secured through official misconduct that included evidence tampering, false testimony and the suppression of crucial information by prosecutors."

She "also championed state legislation under which parents whose children were found to be habitually truant in elementary school could be prosecuted, despite concerns that it would disproportionately affect low-income people of color."

Instead of seeking justice, time and again she obstructed it as a way to burnish her prosecutorial record for advancement to higher office.

She used the power of her office to show equal justice under law in the US is a meaningless figure of speech - the system politicized against the poor, people of color, Muslims and others most disadvantaged.

During her campaign, Harris tried to erase her past by going all-out to shed her tough on crime image when it comes to ordinary people, not privileged ones she serves.

In last August's Dem presidential debate, Tulsi Gabbard slammed her disgraceful prosecutorial record, saying:

"(W)hen you were in a position to make a difference and an impact in these people's lives, you did not and worse yet in the case of those who are on death row, innocent people, you actually blocked evidence from being revealed that would have freed them until you were forced to do so."

"There's no excuse for that and the people who suffered under your reign as prosecutor. You owe them an apology."

Before pulling out of the race, her state operations director Kelly Mehlenbacher left for the Bloomberg campaign, saying she "never s(aw) an organization treat its staff so poorly," adding:

"It is not acceptable to me that we encouraged people to move from Washington, DC to Baltimore only to lay them off with no notice, with no plan for the campaign, and without thoughtful consideration of the personal consequences to them or the consequences that their absence would have on the remaining staff."

In mid-November, Politico headlined: " 'No discipline. No plan. No strategy.': Kamala Harris campaign in meltdown," saying:

"Kamala Harris' campaign is careening toward a crackup."

"Officials said (current and former staffers have) become increasingly frustrated at the campaign chief's lack of clarity about what changes have been made to right the ship and his plans to turn the situation around," adding:

"(R)ank and file aides are fed up with the weak leadership and uncertainty around internal communication, planning and executing on a clear vision. They say the constant shifting has eroded trust in the upper ranks."

On January 21, Martin Luther King Day, Harris said she'd seek the Dem nomination for president on national television, saying at the time:

Americans seek a president with "leadership skills, experience and integrity (who'll) fight on their behalf" — what she failed at throughout her public life.

Withdrawing from the race, she said "I can't tell you, my supporters and volunteers, that I have a path forward if I don't believe I do."

"So, to you my supporters, it is with deep regret - but also with deep gratitude - that I am suspending my campaign today."

According to Real Clear Politics, her average support is 3.4%. Exposure of her dismal public record, campaign disarray, and funding issues lead her to dropping out of the race.
