Russian Warplanes and Mercenaries in Libya?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Big Lies take on a life of their own when pounded into the public mind repeatedly, how state-sponsored propaganda works.

Along with Chinagate, Irangate, Venezuelagate, almost forgotten but very much active Syriagate, and similar US state-sponsored disinformation, Russiagate Big Lies were made in the USA — establishment media supported propaganda with no end of it in prospect.

Russia didn't interfere in the US electoral process nor act in similar fashion against any other countries — a US specialty, what it's done scores of times throughout the post-WW II period, including against Russia.

Moscow had nothing to do with downing Malaysian Airlines MH17, nothing to do with the Sergey and Yulia Skripal poisoning incident — false flags wrongfully blamed on the Kremlin.

Nor did Russia violate the INF, Open Skies, or other treaties, agreements, or conventions.

Nor do other false US accusations against the Kremlin hold up under scrutiny.

Disinformation, misinformation, Big Lies, and fake news repeated ad nauseam get most people almost anything no matter how untrue.

Propaganda is an instrument of state policy because it works.

Long before the television and Internet age, Joseph Goebbels explained that "(i)f you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

He added that the state must  "use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the state."

Winston Churchill noted that "(a) lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."

The power of technology today blasts Big Lies worldwide almost instantly — drowning out hard truths only available through reliable alternative sources, mainly online.

The latest Russiagate Big Lie focuses on Libya, Africa's most developed country under Muammar Gaddafi until US-led NATO aggression transformed it into a charnel house from early 2011 to its current status.

A permanent state of war, destruction and human misery exists because Washington rejects conflict resolution in all its war theaters.

It's why they've raged endlessly since October 2001 — besides earlier ones since Harry Truman's preemptive war on North Korea.

No Russian adventurism in Libya exists, its involvement in the country diplomatic.

Moscow aims to halt fighting between Khalifa Haftar-led Libyan National Army forces and the UN-backed Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).

After US-led aggression toppled  Gaddafi in October 2011 and sodomized him to death, secret Pentagon drone war continued — hundreds of strikes continued under Trump.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier slammed the Big Lie about Russian military involvement in Libya, saying the following:

"I categorically refute speculations of this kind. We are acting in the interest of the Libyan settlement," adding:

"We are supporting the existing effort, including through the United Nations."

"We maintain a dialogue with those who somehow influence the situation."

"We do not think that there is any grounds for such statements, such fiction, but this is not the first time that US media spread different speculations, wicked rumors, falsehoods targeting us."

"We have already gotten used to this, and we take it in stride."

"However, I have to acknowledge that recurrent hoaxes of this kind exercise a negative influence on the sentiment of the US domestic public, and the general atmosphere in the United States."

"Unfortunately it does not promote normalization of our ties, although we strive for it."

In response to the latest disinformation about Russian warplanes and mercenaries involved militarily in Libya, the Kremlin debunked the claim as "fake" news.

Lavrov again rejected the Big Lie, no credible evidence supporting it.

Forever US aggression is ongoing in multiple theaters, including drone war in Libya.

Yet on Tuesday USAFRICOM commander General Stephen Townsend issued a disinformation statement, saying:

"For too long, Russia has denied the full extent of its involvement in the ongoing Libyan conflict. Well, there is no denying it now."

An AFRICOM press release falsely claimed Russian warplanes were sent from Syria to provide air support for Russian mercenaries in Libya, camouflaged to conceal their identity (sic).

No evidence was presented to support the accusation because none exists.

Nor does any support AFRICOM's claim that Russia aims "to achieve (its) strategic goals" in Libya at the expense of its people — a US specialty worldwide.

LNA spokesman General Ahmad al-Mismari effectively debunked AFRICOM's Big Lie, saying:

"We find strange such statements, which mention the increase in the combat readiness of the army, that we have various types of Russian aircraft."

"We also find it strange that these reports do not mention the interference and expansion of Turkey in our country and the transfer of tens of thousands of mercenaries from Turkey."

Russia's lower house State Duma Defense Committee First Deputy chairman Andrey Krasnow slammed the Big Lie claim about Moscow's involvement militarily in Libya, saying:

The accusation "does not correspond to reality," adding:

"Russia's position is well known. We are in favor of ending the bloodshed in Libya."

"We urge all parties to the conflict to refrain from using weapons and sit at the negotiating table."

Establishment media were quick to jump on the latest Russiagate Big Lie.

The NYT cited the phony Pentagon accusation, saying "Russia…covertly deploy(ed) at least 14 fighter jets to Libya last week to support Russian mercenaries fighting alongside a beleaguered commander in his campaign to oust the government from Tripoli (sic)," adding:

"The deployment of the fighter jets appeared to confirm the Kremlin's deepening role in the sprawling proxy war (sic)."

Other establishment media reports were similar — repeating US propaganda claims, no matter the absence of evidence because there is none.

Russia is the world's leading proponent of world peace. It's involved diplomatically to try resolving endless US launched wars in Libya and Syria, including at the UN.

Its forces intervened militarily in Syria almost five years ago to combat the scourge of US-supported ISIS and likeminded terrorists, turning the tide of battle to prevent the country from becoming another US vassal state.

Its geopolitical agenda focuses on pursuing world peace, stability, and mutual cooperation among nations.

US foreign policy is polar opposite, seeking dominion over planet earth, its resources and populations by brute force if other strategies fail — what the scourge of imperialism is all about.
