Iran Calls for Elimination of Nukes

The Islamic Republic abhors these weapons of mass destruction — banning their development years ago, wanting them eliminated everywhere before they eliminate us.

Nuclear armed nations include the US, Russia, China, Britain, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel.

The Arms Control Organization estimates that the above nations have "nearly 13,500 nuclear warheads."

US and Russian arsenals comprise over 90% of them.

In July 1945, before WW II formally ended, the US test-detonated its first warhead — with nuking already defeated Japan twice in mind to test their destructive power and intimidate Soviet Russia.

War in the Pacific should have ended in early 1945.

It continued months longer because FDR (before his April death) and HST rejected Japan's surrender offer.

Nearly unconditional, Japanese authorities agreed to all US demands — asking only for their emperor to remain in a ceremonial capacity.

The US later agreed to what it initially rejected.

Yet when war was effectively over, US warplanes terror-bombed Tokyo gratuitously in March 1945, massacring an estimated 100,000 perishing in the firestorm, many more injured, over a million left homeless — largely civilians affected.

Dozens of other Japanese cities were fire-bombed in similar fashion around the same time.

All of the above constituted war crimes by any standard — a longstanding US tradition.

On August 6, 1945, the nuclear age began in real time.

Weeks ahead of that fateful day after a successful Alamogordo, New Mexico detonation, General Thomas Farrell prophetically said the following:

"We were reaching into the unknown, and we did not know what might come of it."

Atom bomb developer Robert Oppenheimer quoted  the Bhagavad Gita saying: 

"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

Nuking Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was gratuitous mass-murder, the same true for incinerating Nagasaki three days later.

In both cities, hundreds of thousands died, countless others and their offspring scarred by the blasts and nuclear radiation.

At the time, Truman falsely claimed that what happened "was to spare the Japanese people from (further) utter destruction (sic)" — a bald-faced Big Lie.

With Japan defeated seeking surrender, nuking both cities accomplished no military objectives.

Terror-bombing is an international crime.

Article 25 of the Laws of War: Laws and Customs of War on Land (1907 Hague IV Convention) states: "The attack or bombardment, by whatever means, of towns, villages, dwellings, or building which are undefended is prohibited."

Post-WW II Geneva IV protects civilians in time of war – prohibiting violence of any type against them, requiring sick and wounded be treated humanely.

Nuremberg Principles (1945) forbid "crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity."

There was nothing good about the most destructive war in world history.

Tens of millions died, many millions more irreversibly harmed, mostly civilians in harm's way — China and Russia enduring the worst of it.

Historian Howard Zinn said "(t)he bombing of Hiroshima remains sacred to the American establishment and to a very large part of the population in this country," adding:

"Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unforgivable atrocities – perpetrated on a Japan ready to surrender…wanton act(s) of gargantuan cruelty (not) an unavoidable necessity."

What "could be more horrible than the burning, mutilation, blinding, irradiation of hundreds of thousands of Japanese men, women, and children?"

"And yet it is absolutely essential for our political leaders to defend the bombing because if Americans can be induced to accept that, then they can accept any war, any means, so long as the war-makers can supply a reason."

Before nuking both cities, US war secretary Henry Stimson admitted that Japan was "defeated and that (bombing both cities) was completely unnecessary."

Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral William Leahy made similar remarks, along with calling the atom bomb "a barbarous weapon."

It paled in comparison to today's thermo-nukes.

Able to incinerate large cities and surroundings, they threaten humanity with extinction if detonated in large numbers.

Nuclear expert, anti-war activist Helen Caldicott earlier explained the following:

"If present trends continue, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink will soon be contaminated with enough radioactive pollutants to pose a potential health hazard far greater than any plague humanity has ever experienced."

A "single failure of nuclear deterrence (could) start nuclear war." 

Devastating consequences would follow, potentially killing "tens of millions of people, and caus(ing) long-term, catastrophic disruptions of the global climate and massive destruction of Earth's protective ozone layer." 

"The result would be a global nuclear famine that could kill up to one billion people."

Worldwide nuclear winter is the ultimate nightmare, able to end all life on earth, no known antidotes to stop it if things go this far.

In 1946, Einstein warned that the "power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking, and thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe."

Thermo-nukes controlled by US, NATO, Israeli warmongers represent a clear and present danger to humanity.

Iran's envoy to the Vienna-based International Organizations Kazzem Qaribabadi called for eliminating nukes worldwide, saying:

August 6 "marked 76th anniversary of atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which killed up to 226,000 civilians." 

"That was genocide and crimes against humanity."

The US alone used these weapons. Its "arsenal…threatens" other nations with mass destruction.

For a "safe and secure world, nuclear weapons should be destroyed totally."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said "Hiroshima (showed) that (the US) is ready to put in every effort and take every inhuman action to achieve its illegitimate and insensible objectives," adding:

"The memory of the victims of this incident is a reminder to the world of the necessity of pursuing and seriously realizing the exalted ambition of a world free from nuclear weapons and underlines that the dark shadow and the permanent threat of such weapons are putting the international peace and security at risk."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, unswervingly (opposes) using and threatening to use (these) weapons…"

It supports "a world free from nuclear weapons…" 

"(I)t is necessary that all countries take practical and legal steps to cooperate on full nuclear disarmament, which has been clearly stated in article 6 of the NPT, away from biased political approaches of some countries, which are in possession of nuclear arms."

As long as they exist, the risk is high that they'll be used again — notably by hegemon USA in pursuit of its diabolical aims.
