Long term food storage reference (email from a friend)...Hopefully you are all getting prepared
Donna HancockShelf life data gives specific foods and average shelf life assuming optimum storage conditions. Foods kept at lower temperatures extend their shelf life.
Thanks Donna!
Thank you Donna. Nice to hear from Ernie's better half . Your posts are always appreciated on these important subjects. Any good recipe for home-made protien bars that will keep in a purse or backpack? I'd have to sweeten mine with stevia so I don't drive my blood sugar up. Maybe using almond flour and egg white but I can't figure out what would hold it together. Thanks. Blessings.
To Wind Dancer - you could try natural peanut butter to hold the protein bar together. Don't know how you would do with honey or molasses, but those might work, too. I never made protein bars, but I have made granola (recipe on Freedoms Phoenix) that is a great source of protein - and yummy, too!

The FDA requires either "expiration dates" or "Best By" dates and companies don't mind because THAT encourages product turnover which means more sales for them.
Canned foods will store FAR longer than their dates say.
My link to the articles didn't show up. .
Last try: Go to internet-grocer.net/how-long.htm to read about the 100 years plus canned foods.
