Yes, decriminalization of drugs would dry up a huge source of revenue for Mexicans, but then what? Now we have a huge new group of poor Mexicans. It doesn't change that Mexico is a failed dependent state that's been suffering from 200 years of de facto apartheid, and that the world is shrinking, the Mexicans have a right to live in this hemisphere, and we need to not only make up and become friends but find a way of sharing the New World in peace and prosperity.

To cut to the chase, there has always been only one true permanent solution, my Megamerge Dissolution Solution of Congress inviting the people of Mexico to scrap their corrupt govt. and reorganize into 10 new states each the size of Utah, then apply for statehood. A phased transition can erase the horrible 2K-mi. land border and expand the U.S. border to the Mexican coasts, where real illegal immigrants from other continents can finally be spotted coming, while permitting mass 2-way migration sans passports, resulting in Mexico finally being developed to the U.S. level, a win-win situation. All we give up is the official English language and white supremacy b.s., which are lost causes anyway with Obama inviting immigrants from the Muslim World like a bake sale. We win in having 60 states instead of 50 all flying a new Stars and Stripes, with the important thing, the U.S. Constitution, still sovereign and supreme. Mexicans lose their separate runt state, but gain U.S. citizenship, freedom of movement, an end to the divisive border, and economic prosperity. All immigration records for the new citizens can be erased (if they're non-violent), giving them a new start.

Too bad, both parties won't even mention it, and instead crank out endless dishonest b.s. proposals for dealing with Mexico that are short term not long term at the best.  If Mexico implodes and is taken over by a new Castro who invites our worst enemies to set up shop, will it be too late?
