Strictly speaking the three cops in St Pete screwed up and paid with two lives. The moment they were informed the suspect was hiding in the attic they should have withdrawn and called an extraction team. They could have just waited him out.
As far as the 11 cops in 24 hours.... this needs to be looked at in perspective. In the same 24 hours around 120 men, women, and children were killed in traffic accidents around the country. About 500 maimed or seriously injured. More people die EACH YEAR in traffic accidents that all the deaths from all the wars the US has been involved in combined.
While tragic, statistically, 11 deaths in 24 hours from any cause is insignificant. A cop still has far more of a chance of being killed in a traffic accident than being shot. So lets not get paranoid over this. If you want to save lives ban cars.
