AzGOP to pay $5 per new registered voter

(From a Reader)

At tonite's Legislative District 22 meeting for us PCs, we got a little talk from State Chairman Robert Graham. He announced a new initiative from the state party going forward into the next election cycle. We were the first LD to receive the news (Graham will be visiting all the other LDs at their meetings to give the same news) that in about 30 to 60 days, a new voter drive will commence. PCs will be expected to be the foot soldiers for this drive. The state party will pay PCs up to $5 for each new registered Republican;...$0.50 for the actual registration, and another $4.50 if the PC also get's their email and cell phone #. Obviously, this is meant to generate call lists for future campaigns. Graham did not expand on where the $ for this drive was coming from. When asked if the party would sell this database, he answered it would not, though he did later admit there would be "coordination" with campaigns of candidates,...which I took to mean that the data would indeed "be in the wind" and fall into the hands of marketers eventually. Graham lamented that currently only 20% of LDs share their email lists with the state party, and expressed dismay that this was entirely because of the individual chairmen of those districts who refused to submit them.

No doubt you will read about this in Stephen Lemons' FEATHERED BASTARD column, where the headline will read REPUBLICANS SO DESPERATE, THEY PAY BOUNTIES, or IF YOUR VOTE IS FOR SALE, THE REPUBLICANS ARE BUYING. There's no way this doesn't become a PR nightmare.

But in the meantime, I'm asking all my friends to help me earn some bounty money by (temporarily, of course) allowing me to register them as Republicans. For the chiiiillllllldren.
