ZeroGov: Limited Government, Unicorns and other Mythological Creatures is published and live this morning on Amazon. It will be available
only as an eBook and therein lies a revolution in writing. No longer
stymied and stove piped through the traditional publishing houses, books
are taking a plunge into a new frontier that has been maturing since
the beginning of the new century. This is both good news and bad.
The good news is that authors will now take home much more than they
would over the long term with traditional publishing royalties. We will
also see an exponential increase in the number of books available. This speaks to the bad news. There will be an ocean of bad writing,
dross and poor thinking on display that has probably not occurred in the
millenium that preceded us in the publishing world.
It also means that the number of “real” books will diminish as the electronic variant starts to gain supremacy.
Mind you, it pains me a bit to see the transition. I have a library
annex on my house filled from floor to ceiling with thousands of books. I take great comfort to go in there and simply sit with them. Or I may
be writing a new blog posting and reach for a text for an arcane
reference I cannot find on the web. I love the oft-mentioned tactile
feel of a real book; the scent of the pages can even bring back memories
to the first time I read it. I have a certain smug satisfaction that
haunts the mind of every compulsive completist when I look at the mass
treasure trove of Liberty Fund tomes on my shelves. I sit at the desk in my library and can almost
feel the authors’ conversations from their books and the sense that if I
could only read just a few more before I perished. But I digress.
This is my first book and even more so my first electronic book and
it certainly posed challenges in its creation that I will talk about in a
future blog post.

Lots of Native American Roadside Stands set up along the Arizona roads.

you can see where the Grand Canyon Begins (wow - what a nice place to
work):

Leaving Salt Lake City, Utah:
Entering Idaho:
Beautiful Idaho scenery:
Ernest in the Idaho Falls O'Reilly's Auto Parts store, getting new
bearings for the trailer we are hauling (rear seal went out, and with it
all the grease - luckily, we caught it just in time, but finding just
the right parts was a little tricky):
Local Sheriff's Dept. officer in Dubois, Idaho helps by holding a flashlight (for almost an hour) as Ernie had to do some hand filing on the axle to fix damage from the failed bearing so the new ones would slide on ("Donna,... I knew I should have brought my Dremel")
PICTURES DAY 3 (Friday, JUNE 8TH, 2012):
Idaho Falls, ID to Kalispell, MT:
Declare Your Independence with Ernest
Hancock - broadcasting LIVE in the parking lot of O'Reilly's Auto Parts
in Idaho Falls, Idaho - literally, 'on the road':
Ernest fixing the trailer bearings between breaks during the show:
O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Idaho Falls, Idaho:
A listener from Idaho Falls (Ron Cecil), hearing that we had
trouble with the trailer bearings and needing to get them fixed before
continuing on the trip, comes by to help out! And Ernest puts him on the
show....
Ron Cecil and Donna Hancock after finishing with the bearings...(THANKS RON) :)
Finally - entering Montana...
Stopped to fill up in a little town about an hour south of Kalispell - note that we took the magnetic Ron Paul sign off the car after Rand's endorsement of Romney. Every stop before was warm and inspiring with thumbs up and positive comments,... after, it was just confusing and sad.
There aren't very many ways into Kalispell, MT - this is approaching Kalispell coming thru the mountains...

Memorial that will be carved in stone on Crazy Horse Monument:
Ernest and Donna at Crazy Horse:
On the drive from Crazy Horse to Mt. Rushmore (only about a 20 minute drive), there was this beautiful little lake:
Donna at Mount Rushmore. We just pulled into the parking lot to get this picture and then leave. After seeing the privately funded Crazy Horse monument and understanding the story behind the motivation of the Native Americans to create a monument in contrast to the Government funded monument to presidents that ruled over their near extinction,... we didn't feel motivated to spend our money there.
All four heads of Mt. Rushmore together are about the size of the head of the Crazy Horse monument.
This little town, right outside of Mt. Rushmore as you come down from the mountain, makes you feel like you were in the Swiss Alps:
South Dakota Sunset:
