He's achieved his MSc in Political Science from Leiden University (NL), takes a MA in International Journalism (DK/NL) and holds a degree in International Relations from UFRGS, in Brazil.
At Georgetown University, he was part of the Global Competitiveness Leadership Class of 2009. He participated in seminars in the US, Germany, Bulgaria, Panama, Brazil and France.
Van Hattem speaks Portuguese, English, Dutch and Spanish, with good knowledge of French, German and Italian.
Van Hattem has sound Brazilian and International Politics and Economics expertise: he was a city councilor in Dois Irmãos (2005-08), adviser for international relations and economy of a Brazilian MP in Congress (2009-11), academic director of Tarso Dutra Foundation for Political Studies (2010) and intern at the International Enterprise department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (2012).
He is also the Language of Liberty local partner in Brazil
