About Dr. Bossard:

Dr. John Bossard is an innovator and mechanical engineer with expertise in the fields of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.  He specializes in the conceptualization, analysis, design, fabrication, and testing of high energy-release-rate systems, specifically aerospace propulsion systems and combustion devices.  Dr. Bossard supports commercial and government clients in the aerospace field through his company BSRD LLC.  He has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, and is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Dr. Bossard is an expert on combined cycle engines, and specifically Turbine Based Combined Cycle (TBCC) engines, and has decades of experience in working with TBCC engines such as the Air Turbo Rocket (ATR) engine cycle.  In 1999, he designed, built, and hot-fire tested the world's first bi-propellant gas-generator cycle ATR.

But starting in 2011, he began work on a new TBCC engine concept, and has subsequently designed, built, and is currently hot-fire testing this new engine prototype.  This engine, known as the RTR Turborocket, or just RTR, combines a turbojet engine with a novel, pump-fed rocket engine known as a Turborocket.  Recent test results from turborocket and RTR testing are encouraging, with more development work currently underway.

Dr. Bossard has a keen interest in the emergence of a meta-planetary civilization, and has been an active supporter and contributor to the NewSpace industry.  In 1999, he presented at EAA AirVenture on the subject of Homebuilt Aerospace Planes, which anticipated some of the important NewSpace developments which followed.  In 2002, he provided analytic support to the Spaceshipone project.  And he continues to support current and future NewSpace endeavors.

Dr. Bossard received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University in 1996, an M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1986, and an Honors B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1984.
