Actually, the UK military launched the first Skynet satellites in the late 60s, early 70s, long before the Terminator stories were even written. 

Hasn't Ronald Reagan's "Star wars" laser system been up there for ages already? I've even heard that it was so popular for awhile that they started spelling Reagan's name Ray-gun.
