Pew poll: Americans turning sharply toward isolationism

• McClatchy News
At the very moment when President Barack Obama is looking to thrust the U.S. ever more into global affairs, from Afghanistan to climate change, the American public is turning more isolationist and unilateralist than it has at any time in decades, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The survey by the Pew Research Center found a plurality of Americans — 49 percent — think that the U.S. should "mind its own business internationally" and leave it to other countries to fend for themselves.

Isolationist has become a propaganda term to make US citizens fearful of following what our founders recommended, friends with all nations, entanglements with none. Do many schools bother to teach what the Founders had in mind when they built the USA around the Constitution? How many of you had to study the US Constitution to graduate HS? I didn't. I got out in '67, so even back then the Constitution was not thought worthy of study.

Pat Buchanan was deluged with the term 'isolationist' when he ran for Prez. Mr. B wanted to do what the Founders recommended, but that would not be nearly so good for those who use war as a tool to help persuade people to embrace a UN led one world government so war will stop.. The propaganda machine persuaded a lot of uninformed voters. Hmm, that sounds very familiar.

Ron Paul has it right because he knows what the Founders wanted.

The opposite of 'isolationist' is 'interventionist'. The 1st means we trade, travel in & are friends with other nations.  What the author implies using the 2nd is that we should keep on intervening where we are not wanted. A large part of the reason we were hit on 9-11 is because we are meddling in other people's business. The CIA called 9-11 'blow back'. Read the 9-11 commission Report & check out what the CIA said. Then there is what the perps themselves said...

Perhaps the author could show us how intervening in other nation's affairs lines up with the Constitution & how our founding document makes US meddling legal. For a few all the wars have been profitable. But  war has not been nearly so benefiting for soldiers (or their families) maimed or killed enforcing the empire building of the USA.

This is not learning, this is amnesia.

This is the same America that ran blindly to war in a fit of pure blood lust. This is the same America that bought into every blatant lie and festooned the land with plastic yellow ribbon stickers imported from China.

This is not a change of heart. I'm not even sure it's a change of mind. I don't think it's a change at all. This is America.

We are the change.
