Mesa Mayor Scott Smith lashed out at parochialism among Cactus
League baseball teams Monday, saying their opposition to a ticket
surcharge for a new Chicago Cubs training facility could cost them all
if the team bolts to Florida.
Even before a bill to finance the new Cubs facility was introduced
Monday by House Majority Leader John McComish, R-Ahwatukee Foothills,
other teams, led by Arizona Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall, lined
up to oppose it. [Where's our cut?]

I guess its not a gift because it would be paid for by surcharges on game tickets for other baseball fans... so as a baseball fan, I'd be contributing to the new stadium... but my wife that can't stand it wouldn't have to pay taxes to support it. I don't see an issue.

Another reason it sucks to be a Cub fan... I'll always bleed Cubbie blue though...
What I don't understand is how building a stadium for my Cubs doesn't go directly against the gift clause in the AZ constitution that has been getting so much press lately. Does anyone know? Seems like AuH20 would be all over this...
