Supreme Court snubs Canadian-Syrian torture appeal

• AFP
The US Supreme Court Monday refused to hear an appeal brought by a Canadian-Syrian who was wrongly arrested in the US in 2002 and expelled to Syria where he was held and tortured for a year.

Computer engineer Maher Arar was detained in New York in September 2002 following a tip-off from Canadian police who suspected him of terrorism.

He was then expelled to Syria by the United States, where he was detained and tortured.
