Anti-terror law upheld by high court

• AP (video)
The Supreme Court has upheld a federal law that bars "material support" to foreign terrorist organizations, rejecting a free speech challenge from humanitarian aid groups.

The court ruled 6-3 Monday that the government may prohibit all forms of aid to designated terrorist groups, even if the support consists of training and advice about entirely peaceful and legal activities.

Material support intended even for benign purposes can help a terrorist group in other ways, Chief Justice John Roberts said in his majority opinion.

Dang, Powell, I believe you are pointing out that this decision criminalizes the payment of income tax. That little idea is so very self-evident and true that I bet it would pass the litmus test of not holding up in court. But, wow, you are so right. In court, furthermore, I think that not only could you cite Iran/Contra, but you could go postal during the discovery process and subpoena half the CIA and FBI to make your point. Hilariously ironic. But the tax angle is FREAKIN' BRILLIANT. By paying taxes you ARE violating this new statute. And it's demonstrable. Dang!

Brought to you by the same people who decided you really don't own "your" homes, and any government with a idea on how "your" property can better raise revenue for government can forcibly turn "your" property over to someone else's use.

I also point out that people went to prison under this law for giving "material support" to a foreign terrorist organization designated by the US State department as The Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.  But when we needed a front organization to "drive" the Taliban out of Afghanistan in 2002, the same US government recruited them and installed them into power through use of bombs and bullets. Just saying....

I guess the "foreign" part keeps you from using as an excuse why you are not sending any material aid to a domestic terror group like the IRS.
