Arizona Department of Revenue director resigns

Department of Revenue Director Gale Garriott submitted his resignation to Gov. Jan Brewer last week, but he's told her and his employees that he's willing to stay on the job until a replacement is selected.

Garriott has headed the department since 2005 and is a holdover from former Gov. Janet Napolitano's administration. He led the tax collection agency at a time when it made hundreds of layoffs during the state's ongoing budget crisis.

Garriott is the third department director to recently submit resignations. Others are the heads of the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Economic Department.

The Arizona Republic reported Garriott's resignation in an blog post late Tuesday.

I can understand why...I was watching the State TV in live session last week, and there were some REALLY bad tech investments made, and questionable as to ability to pay off muni-bonds maturing in '11 and '12...oh, oh...
