Chilean Unemployment Rate Drops to 7.1%

According to the National Statistics Institute, as reported in La Tercera, Chile’s unemployment rate dropped to 7.1% for the September to November reporting period. Santiago’s rate dropped to 7.0%. Iquique and the two southernmost regions (Coyhaique, Aysen, Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas, Cerro Sombrero) had unemployment rates of 5.0% or less. A lot of this drop is to be expected after the major earthquake and seasonal factors. But coupled with a 6% growth rate, the unemployment indicator provides encouraging evidence for a bright future in Chile. Economic sentiment has been running high too, with 74% of Chileans having a positive outlook.
