Robot Hand Picks Up and Deposits Messes Without Leaving A Trace

• Clay Dillow via PopSci.com

Today in things that may leave you scratching your head: the SWITL, the robotic hand that can pick up, move, and put down sol-gel materials without altering their shape or arrangement in the least.

Apparently this technology has been around since 2007 (another video was circulating the Web in March) and was designed to handle ingredients on bakery production lines that are difficult to manipulate with human hands or via other instruments. Now, it seems the Japanese company that created SWITL are working toward other applications in the packaging of meats and other sol-gel products that need to keep their shape but are difficult to handle.

Apparently the working surface is coated with Teflon. Feel free to theorize about how this thing works in the comments below.
