In July, several members of congress wrote letters to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voicing their concerns over genetically modified salmon. The letters discussed environmental concerns. Aquabounty’s Aquadvantage genetically modified salmon is set to be approved for farming by the FDA, which mainly relies on assurances from the company that the genetically modified salmon poses no risk. Now, several dozen industry groups have sent a letter to congress asking members not to interfere with the Food and Drug Administrations findings. The groups believe the FDA should have sole responsibility of making such decisions and that any interference with such decisions would reduce the credibility of the FDA.
