Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- Egyptian elections, the first since the ouster of longtime President Hosni Mubarak in February, will begin November 21, the head of the nation's election commission said Sunday.

The first phase of voting will end January 3, then more elections will be held from January 22 through March 4, Abdel Moez Ibrahim said.

Mubarak was toppled after two weeks of protests in Egypt. In the wake of his departure, demonstrators have criticized the performance of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the government. Among their desires was the announcement of election dates, along with the abolishment of military tribunals, the establishment of minimum and maximum wages and permission for Egyptians abroad to vote in the coming elections.
