ARIZONA - BLM - Lower Sonoran Field Office Releases Land Use Plan
 
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lower Sonoran Field Office and Sonoran Desert National Monument has announced the release of a Draft Resource Management Plan (DRMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). This land use document provides direction for approximately 1.4 million acres of public land in south-central Arizona managed by the Lower Sonoran Field Office (LSFO). Of these public lands, approximately 486,400 acres are within the Sonoran Desert National Monument (SDNM).
Electronic versions of the Plan are available for review on the Lower Sonoran Field Office website at www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/planning/son_des.html.  A printed copy of the document is available for review at local libraries, printed copies and CD versions are available at the BLM Phoenix District Office or by calling 623-580-5500.
The Proposed Resource Management Plan and Final Environmental Impact Statement  will be published in late spring of 2012, and two Records of Decision will be signed - one for the Sonoran Desert National Monument and one for the remainder of public lands in the Lower Sonoran planning area. 
Those interested in a wide range of resource issues, including OHV recreation, mountain biking, hunting, target shooting and camping, are encouraged to review the draft plan and participate in this public process.
During the public participation process, the BLM will hold eight public meetings at convenient locations throughout the planning area to receive public comments. (See schedule below.) Public comments may be provided at those meetings and through the BLM website as well.
