An All-American Nightmare

• The American Conservative

How about a moment of silence for the passing of the American Dream? M.R.I.C. (May it rest in carnage.)

No, I’m not talking about the old dream of opportunity that involved homeownership, a better job than your parents had, a decent pension, and all the rest of the package that’s so yesterday, so underwater, so OWS. I’m talking about a far more recent dream, a truly audacious one that’s similarly gone with the wind.

At no time in real history has it ever been a tenet of an "American dream" to own a home. The whole notion is exactly that, a notion. It is right up there with "A diamond is forever." It is a con. It is why the housing industry generated so much wealth. It is why so many people have been scammed out of their life savings or "real wealth". Follow the money, folks.

Would anyone have turned over 20 or 30 years of their hard-earned wages to someon who simply asked for it every month. However, if someone thought they were investing in their future, being responsible, creating a retirement "fund", or providing for their partner or children, they might. THEY DID!

You've been screwed! This has not been a test or an experiment; it has been a contrived and intentional process to accumulate YOUR wealth - "legally".

        Thank your selected officials!
