A private estimate, published in The Space Review, of the costs of operating the Space Launch system places the cost per launch of between $1.3 billion for the 70-metric ton version to $2.45 billion for the 130-metric ton version. The estimate is arrived at by assuming that the Space Launch System would be 10 times as costly to operate than a private launch vehicle, for the purpose of comparison the Falcon Heavy.
