My wife and I recently started watching Battlestar Galactica again after finishing it a couple of years ago. It has been interesting to watch the show again knowing how it plays out, but I have changed significantly since I watched the show the first time as well. Having gone through my "awakening" I tend to see things in a whole new light. The thought of Marines running drunk driving check-points is a truly frightening thought.
Anyways, on to the show: This exchange took place between Commander Adama and President Roslin. In Season 1, episode 4, a water shortage arises and the citizen of the fleet start rioting. President Roslin asks for Adama's help in quelling the riots, he responded with the following:
"There is a reason we separate the military and the police. One fights the enemy of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."
