Former Shell Oil president John Hofmeister founded Citizens for Affordable Energy, a nonprofit group promoting diversity and innovation in U.S. energy supplies, and joined the advisory board of the Irvine, Calif.–based Fuel Freedom Foundation, which has launched an outreach initiative in support of fuel competition. Hofmeister tells PM that the chronic inadequacy of government response to the perils of foreign-oil dependence will not be fixed until there's a paradigm shift in the way we think about fuel.
