Oklahoma Lawmakers Consider Getting Government Out of the Marriage Business

State lawmakers are considering throwing out marriage in Oklahoma.

The idea stems from a bill filed by Rep. Mike Turner (R-Edmond). Turner says it's an attempt to keep same-sex marriage illegal in Oklahoma while satisfying the U.S. Constitution. Critics are calling it a political stunt while supporters say it's what Oklahomans want....

If you read the comments on this article, you get the usual "but who will build the roads" type of logic ("how will we file tax returns?").  It's a shame because that viewpoint shows just how people are unable to wrap their minds around the concept of living without the state ("Why then we'd have.....Anarchy!!!!")

After reading the first 15 or so posts (you need facebook to make a comment and I'm not there.....especially since the latest facebook "privacy policy" allows them to read your email....or so I've heard) you'll see no one making the point that until the middle of the 1800's the state was not involved in marriage and yet, somehow, society continued to function.

This really is the solution to so many of the social issues that consume so much of people's passions ie get the govt out of it.
