Poll shows unemployment still main US problem

NATION | A new poll shows unemployment is now the top problem of Americans. The survey was conducted by Gallup, as part of a regular series of research into the top concerns facing people of the country. Unemployment has been the greatest concern of Americans nearly every time the survey has been taken since 2008. The only exception was last fall, when politicians were named the worst problem. Survey respondents called elected leaders the greatest issue in the country during the government shutdown in October. They retained that ranking for the next three months. In the latest survey, 23 percent of Americans named jobs and unemployment as their top concern. One in five people, or 20 percent, said the economy is the number one problem facing the country. Politicians came in third, at 19 percent. Healthcare came in at just 15 percent. Just 23 percent reported feeling satisfied with the direction of the country.
