Last year, the late great (though recently reincarnated) Omni Magazinemade much of its back catalog available as part of the Internet Archive’s “Magazine Rack” collections. And lo, the internet rejoiced, and it was good. Well, mostly. While many a nerd grew up flipping through the unabashedly credulous futurist magazine, one of the things we loved most were the ads—and many of those had been stripped from the digital copies. Going back to the magazine was fulfilling and all, but without that dose of late ’70s/early ’80s zeitgeist that came from Atari 2600 and Sony Walkman ads, it just didn’t feel quite as immersive as we’d hoped.
